Armed to the hilt, they came from land and air, determined to restore order to Mexico's most violent city.

Nearly 2,000 Mexican soldiers and armed federal police poured into the border town of Ciudad Juarez last weekend.

The city - just across from El Paso in Texas - has been ravaged by drug gangs. Just this month 250 people were killed there by hitmen fighting for lucrative smuggling routes.

We don need no steeenking borders !

I find it appalling that our government keeps denying the levity of the border security problem and the impact of immigration on the economy , 1.6 BILLION dollars is exported legally each month through wire transfer home to mexico by individuals, not to mention all the other financial impact issues,

good to see mexico is finally cracking down a bit

You guys lose me at the "dollars going home to Mexico." Many of those dollars end up back in American banks. Dollar flows are not a one way street. Besides, with the coming inflation, a large outflow of dollars may not be such a bad thing. ;-)

The dumb peasant wing of the conservative movement really needs to be educated on basic economics. Besides, without los frijoleros spending their money on junk, half of the Wal Marts in this country would collapse, to say nothing of sales of the Texas constructed Toyota Tundra...

I would watch out for the Federales. They aren’t so nice. Better have your bribe money available and don’t be cheap. I had a friend get his shoulder shot up when he was slow on coughing up the dough.

The readers comment that made me laugh: “They didn’t send in any social workers.”

Hey!

If we don’t need a border and troops, why do they?

I’m glad they’re trying to fix it.

Too bad it probably won’t light a fire under the lard999888s in DC.

The dumb illegals need to wake up and realize they are breaking the law.

by the end of the year, terrorists will be lobbing rockets and mortars over the border. Obozo will blame Bush, write a sternly worded letter to the UN and then put his thumbs back up his a$$.

Not just that, but how many dollars are we sending to Mexico by buying drugs? I'm not a drug warrior . . . I'm just observing that we are bitching about the creek and ignoring the river.

From what I have seen, at least half of these Federales probably work for the drug cartels in their spare time.

This isn’t a game of cops and robbers; this is a civil war among competing mobsters.

Actually, few foreign banks are owned by US banks throughout Central America. Citibank is the only US investor in Guatemala, for instance, in a bank that is dubiously capitalized at best, to their chagrin. They thought they knew what they were buying two years ago...

So, the dollars do not end up in American banks, at least not for a while, until people buy something that then gets eventually back here. So, why is this any better than having the dollars stay here in the first place?

Second, no one should give a dang that we’ve had an artificial economic boom given to Wal-Marts or such due to illegals spending money in the US that they’ve earned illegally in the US. The net cost of these illegals is far worse (with medical, government, charitable, and judicial benefits and without having to pay taxes (unless they gave a stolen ID with its SS# and have had their withholding done) along with the crime issues the drug and gang-related illegals bring).

Take your illegals and you support them. Let them rape the women in your family in exchange for helping build a truck.

The current administration is doing its job. The illegals are just another disenfranchised segment of American society, and as such, they will be given preferential treatment. Our taxpayers can afford to help bolster the continuation of our ruling party by supplying a fresh supply of needy voters. The former GOP will go along with this theme in the spirit of bipartisanship. Sort of makes one feel warm all over, eh?

WalMart and Toyota did just fine for years BEFORE all the illegals flowed in. I stopped shopping at WalMart because it is little Mexico now, and I know many other "non illegals" who have also. As well as a few other stores.

There are many private bankers in Miami and New York who would disagree with your sentiment. I agree that illegals should have been deported yesterday, but the argument of the "chuck-a-boots" that "all dem dawlers r goin' to Messico and not comin' back" is ridiculous, as if dollars were some magic elixir (well, uh, sometimes they are). In a fiat world of convertible currencies, such arguments ring hollow.

Go after the illegals for their impact on social services and the RULE OF LAW, but the "dollars are flowin' out" argument makes us all look like toothless townspeople from a Hammer Studios horror film.
