Inside the Dems' anti-Rush plan By: Jonathan Martin March 4, 2009 04:04 AM EST

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

The strategy took shape after Democrats included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans. Then the conservative talk-radio host emerged as an unapologetic critic of Barack Obama shortly before his inauguration, when even many Republicans were showering him with praise.

Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s.

Limbaugh is embracing the line of attack, suggesting a certain symbiosis between him and his political adversaries.

"The Administration is enabling me,” he wrote in an email to POLITICO. “They are expanding my profile, expanding my audience and expanding my influence. An ever larger number of people are now being exposed to the antidote to Obamaism: conservatism, as articulated by me. An ever larger number of people are now exposed to substantive warnings, analysis and criticism of Obama's policies and intentions, a ‘story’ I own because the [mainstream media] is largely the Obama Press Office.”

The bigger, the better, agreed Democrat James Carville. “It’s great for us, great for him, great for the press,” he said of Limbaugh. “The only people he’s not good for are the actual Republicans in Congress.”

One thing about Limbaugh that you don’t find in the other gutless Republicans is that he fights back. Keep it up Dems. Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight!

“The only people he’s not good for are the actual Republicans in Congress.”

No problem there, Jimmy. There aren't any actual Republicans in Congress.

October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans.

Would like to know who they polled and how many of them polled actually listened to the show even once, my guess none.

The ultimate destination of this fight is a drawing of the battle lines between the two Americas. The two Americas are not reconcilable.

There is no room in this country for capitalism and communism to coexist.

Good one. I also thought of:

And the last time Carville was right was when?

You'd think he would/could actually learn something from his wife....

To know Rush, is to love him.

At least a few open-minded folks are going to tune into his program because of the hullabaloo.

Some of them will like what they hear.

The Democrats are truely idiots. They think they harm the GOP by elevating Rush. All they do is exposing the RINOs. Thanks for that!

By the day Rush is increasing his audience and clout... and he'll ultimately bestow this awakened giant of discontent upon a solid Conservative candidate.

The Democrats have gone too far already. There is no way back for them.

Would like to know who they polled and how many of them polled actually listened to the show even once, my guess none.

There are scads of people out there who have never listened to Rush and who take their opinion of him from the mainstream media. Twenty-two million listeners is quite a lot, but it pales in comparison to the number of non-listeners whose opinion of Limbaugh is based on no actual experience whatsoever.

Yes, Admiral Yamamoto, we gained the resolve to equip a flight of P-38's with special, long-range tanks and to fly them hundreds of miles across the open Pacific Ocean to shoot down your cowardly, Pearl-Harbor-sneak-attack-ass, in a flaming crash of your plane, on top secret orders of the then President.

Paybacks are a bitch.

“The only people he’s not good for are the actual Republicans in Congress.”

Actually, the opposite may be true.

RINOs will have to actually pick sides and not be lukewarm towards conservatism.

If they stop being lukewarm maybe people will stop spitting them out and we can win some elections.

Wrong. It’s a disaster for the RINOs. The Democrats are unwittingly doing the purge for us.
