Inside the Dems' anti-Rush plan By: Jonathan Martin March 4, 2009 04:04 AM EST

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

The strategy took shape after Democrats included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans. Then the conservative talk-radio host emerged as an unapologetic critic of Barack Obama shortly before his inauguration, when even many Republicans were showering him with praise.

Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s.

Limbaugh is embracing the line of attack, suggesting a certain symbiosis between him and his political adversaries.

"The Administration is enabling me,” he wrote in an email to POLITICO. “They are expanding my profile, expanding my audience and expanding my influence. An ever larger number of people are now being exposed to the antidote to Obamaism: conservatism, as articulated by me. An ever larger number of people are now exposed to substantive warnings, analysis and criticism of Obama's policies and intentions, a ‘story’ I own because the [mainstream media] is largely the Obama Press Office.”

The bigger, the better, agreed Democrat James Carville. “It’s great for us, great for him, great for the press,” he said of Limbaugh. “The only people he’s not good for are the actual Republicans in Congress.”

A very short while ago Rush couldn’t rescue the Republican Party from the “moderate” disaster that was John McCain - now he’s the leader of the party?

No, he’s the voice of the OPPOSITION. The two are not the same.

OT: We’d better fix the nominating process or we’re doomed to a succession of McCain-like failures.

you can’t just protect Rush, you have to protect ALL of the conservative voices.

What the left does is attack the front runner in order to intimidate the up and comming.

They want to change the “I can start my own show” into “its too dangerous.” They are trying to PREVENT the next Rush. Folks there are more of us than them and they know it. They had to lie and have a weakling non-conservative republican in order to win.

(BTW as a conservative footnote: a managing director for BAIN Capital investments (pagliuca?) is busy advocating the obama collectivist plan in case anyone has an investment Bain)

I agree. I know I’m not sticking with losers. (And by “losers” I mean in their thinking, not in their vote-count.)

McStupid is the last RINO schmuck I ever vote for. Ever. Never again will I fall for the argument that “the other side is worse”.

If that’s your only argument, then you have no “side”.

If we do NOT fight back, we will lose.

I am grateful every day when I hear Rush's voice on the radio. If they silence him, it will be all over; that is, the phase of the Dems even pretending that they respect democratic dissent will be all over, and we are going to see massive repression in this country. Keep talking, Rush, and keep the volume up high!

Rush is the conservative "safety valve". Three hours we get to hear somebody "just like us". Silence him and the pressure will build and build so that conservatives will actually do something -action instead of words.
Good try, but I can't go along with that. It's too much like the "defeat is good for us" line in 2006. And look where that got us.

Sometimes a tactical retreat is necessary in a war, but never a wholesale surrender.

Giving up Rush would not be a tactical retreat; it would be a wholesale surrender. Which would be followed by a wholesale slaughter of Free Speech everywhere in America.

And what's the "good thing" about that?

lol, you are right. I think the dems are trying to act like they are smart after the fact. I would take Rush’s brain against theirs anyday.

Others have tried to do that in the past and Rush is quick to point out that he is not a spokesperson for the RNC but for Conservatives. He thinks that in our two-party system the Republican Party is the best vehicle for promoting the Conservative position due to their position on life, but anyone who listens to him regularly knows that he is constantly calling the Republican party to task when he disagrees with them.

I agree with what you are saying and think I understand cedric's point. Rush is a private citizen with a huge "voice". He can remain true to his ideals. We have to point out that he is a conservative leader and not the GOP leader. We should work to strengthen the conservative voice within the GOP rather than helping the Alinskyites destroy it by fracturing it. I would think that by the time a third party could be big enough to make any mark at all, it will be too late.

I guess what your saying is the future if the entire free world rests on one man shoulders? If true then all is really lost then, depressing. :-(

I'm all for fighting back.

But, the GOP must be lead by a duly elected official.

What would Rush do if somebody started claiming that Snerdly, Kit Carson, Ann Coulter or Ben Stein could speak for for Rush?

I’m still waiting (as I expected) for you to answer the question...what are the boneheads moves that Rush has done in the past? Please, enlighten us...

Listening to yesterday's show, I realized that Rush linked the stock market to Zero. Every time the market goes down, Rush will beat Zero over the head with his new stick (the market). You know when you mess with people's money eventually they will understand the problem and the problem is Zero!

Obama’s first item in order to establish bi-partisanship was to hire all the original Clinton administration’s team who were responsible for the Clinton war room in order to destroy their opposition. Sounds like a great way to bring people together. It worked so well during Clinton’s terms. Begala, Rahm, and Carville, what a trio of nincompoops.

Government shutdown.

That one won't fly, and you know it. Not even a "nice try." If you insist on targeting someone for that, then combine it with your need for someone to be an "elected" official and throw Newt Gingrich under the bus.

Operation Chaos.

OC was a clever attempt at trying to get conservatives to herd ninnies and cretins in order to help divide and conquer the Democrat base, but too many "brilliant" conservatives screwed that up by being blind to the sycophantic appeal of Obama.

The GOP can't be fixed by trashing Rush.

Ya, it flies just fine.

He egged the Republicans into running off the cliff without properly assessing the sustainability of the effort.

In OC he childishly led his “troops” into an arena they had no business in and didn't understand.

“Democrats included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans.”

Correction: Democrats included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with SOME DEMOCRAT Americans.

This is a typical Demonrat lie. Demonrats haven’t really listened to what Rush is saying and besides that, they are stupid.

Rush said he hopes Hussein’s giveawythestore tax-and-empire-build policies fail. I think we all hope they do. Where’s the disagreement? He wants to destroy the wealth base and put yet more of us on the dole. Where’s the agreement to that? Among a few stupid DEMONRATS, useful idiots of the Leninists.!
