I fully support the Second Amendment...but I just have to ask— what sort of wedding was he going to that he thought he needed this for? I have been to many a redneck wedding and even a couple of “shotgun” weddings but never one that a guest would feel the need for all this.

For all what, a rifle and a shotgun? Heck I normally have at least that in the trunk of my car, in case I have time to run by the range while I'm out and about. He was going to Maine, maybe he wanted to do some shooting with his buddies while he was there.

Sounds eminently reasonable to me. And travelling alone...I always carry multiple level of protection.

Possession of a long gun (shotgun or rifle) by an 18 year old is not a federal crime, even if it has detachable hi cap magazines. It seems Mass. has a law against rifles with hi cap detachable magazines. This state law may or may not be unconstitutional under the US Constitution (I hope so, but our Supremes are a wacky bunch).

It’s a shame to tar and feather this fine young man with a state felony just because he had this rifle. Pray that the state prosecutor uses some discretion in charging the young man. Most anti-gun laws make criminals out of otherwise honest citizens and do not affect real criminals who follow no laws.

What about the body armor? I suppose that is illegal too.

Generally no. I haven't researched it thoroughly, but body armor is usually restricted for convicted felons, like firearms, and in many states it is a crime to be wearing body armor while committing a felony.

Police: Arsenal found in Danbury teen's truck

That explains why the Gunners have sucked this year in the English Premier League.

Thanks, now I know not to be wearing my body armor when transporting my guns through Massachusetts.

These guys would have a cow, or a moose maybe, if they saw the stuff just laying around at a FReeper organized Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot

Few bring even most of their hardware to this affairs, just their favorites. :)

including a .50 caliber rifle bullet

Look at the photo, that .50 cal "bullet", (round) has holes drilled in the case near the base, with some kind of lanyard through the holes. It's a FReeking piece of jewlery!.

bolt-action rifle

? Looks like a Bushmaster AR to me. Or do they have a special non-assualt weapon version for states that don't allow full featured semiautomatic carbines. Bushmaster does have Post Ban models available, so it could be.

If the stuff was legal where he started, and legal where he was headed, as I'm sure it is in Maine, then he's protected by the Firearm Owners Protection Act, passed in 1986 under Ronald Reagan.

Add to that all of the silly rules and regs banning a person from purchasing firearms if they have an out of state driver's license.

Granted, I prefer to get my firearms at gunshows (there's a big one this weekend!), but one of my coworkers went up to the Bass Pro Shop on the other side of the river last week and tried to pick up a .243 for his son's birthday present, but couldn't because the store is in Indiana and Jim has a Kentucky license.

That’s an...interesting...mix of weapons.

Armor plate? As in rifle plates for a Class III vest?

NVD?

I don’t see any problems with owning any of that.

But I do want to know why he’d have all that, and just that, in a vehicle, in a state where much of it is felony possession.

I’m going to withhold judgement on this one, till we get some more information.

I noticed on FreeRepublic there’s always a lot of criticism by the goa towards the NRA. But when it comes time for someone to get serious help, Freepers always turn towards the NRA.

The NRA has a legal defense fund for members who have their Rights violated. I hope this guy is a member so the NRA can remind the prosecutors of the 1986 Firearms Protection Act. This Act allows anyone traveling from two points which permit firearms to safely travel through restricted areas without legal complications.

By the way, if you’re asking for the NRA’s support, are you a member of the NRA?

And no, Bushmaster should not help him.

Contact the NRA or the SAF only if you’re a member.

Rule 1, never ever answer any questions that a cop asks you, My mom told me not to talk to strangers.

rule 2. When asked to get out of the car lock the doors and put keys in pocket. Never ever give permission to search.

Rule 3. If the COp breaks into your car and searches, immediately upon being released from jail file Armed Robbery and Kidnapping Charges against Cop.

Considering this cop was wearing a vest isnt he guilty of an additional Felony of using body armor while committing a crime?

RULE 4 NEVER EVER VISIT A BLUE STATE.

Tell me, is this one of those cases where arsenal = “more than two guns”? Sort of like compound = “building with conservatives inside”.
