A CHINESE man who beheaded and hacked a Canadian bus passenger to pieces has been found not guilty of murder on mental grounds.
Vince Weiguang Li, 40, who had been charged with murdering 22-year-old Tim McLean on a Canadian Greyhound bus on July 30, 2008, has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Li had repeatedly stabbed Mr McLean, who had been asleep on the seat next to him, sawn off his head, removed his internal organs, pocketed his nose, tongue and an ear, and taunted police and bystanders with the severed head.
Police said in court documents Li "appeared to smell, and then eat parts of Tim McLean's flesh" and "lick blood from his hands" as they surrounded the bus on a desolate highway 90 kilometres west of Winnipeg, in western Canada, soon after the attack.
Authorities found body parts littered throughout the bus, some in white plastic bags.
Mr McLean's eyes and a third of his heart were also missing, and it is presumed Li ate them, said a pathologist in court files, though Li denies this.
The other 35 passengers and the driver were jolted by "blood-curdling screams" and fled, said witnesses, bracing the door after their escape to trap Li inside the bus.
I, like virtually every other freshman at my university, took Psych 101. We all had to participate in a certain number of experimental hours, and if you were signed up and missed yours, there was trouble. Of course I learned this the hard way. I was directed into a little room with a table and an apparatus with lights and buttons on it, and to make a long story short, spent the next 90 minutes trading electrical shocks with another malingerer. It was pretty intense, and I can't imagine it happening today. Anyway, I stuck to “hard science” after that.
That’s alright, and thanks.
LOL! That kind of “shock therapy” (not to be confused with the kind that’s actually been applied) would be an effective behavioral/rational aid for directing students toward productive studies. And although economic conditions are getting rough, hard sciences will be in huge demand in the near future, IMO. As imports drop off due to mounting debts, we’ll certainly need people who are capable of designing and making truly useful things. :-)
I’m playing with a cheap CAD package now by learning to design a house with it (QCAD Pro). ...drawing a few missing blocks and symbols for that as per codes. AutoCAD is a little too expensive for the self-builder or hobbyist, and I’m using UNIX-like systems anyway (NetBSD and Linux—helping with testing, learning software development, etc., for NetBSD).
...also analyzing some thermal energy stuff (homemade heat collector, storage and radiation systems) to see if they’re doable with the IRC and other codes.
Absolutely, the bastard should not have lived long enough to see a judge. Real justice should have been meted out by the witnesses. I daresay they would suffer less lingering effects if they had been proactive in taking him out, rather than allow him to live to taunt them with this desecration. People! We have a responsibility as human beings to STOP this behavior ourselves.... not to WAIT for police.
If the existance of police forces results in the emasculation of free citizens and good people, then fire the police. We’re not worthy of protection and justice, and they are not capable of providing such. It is a delusion. Madness reigns.
Good God! How can any of these “witnesses” ever face this victim’s family? He was a 23 year old young man. This story is layered in wrong upon wrong.
It always fun to see who the bed-wetters are...
In future don’t wait for justic
There are a lot of large black bears and mountain lions around my place. The bears only become social and dangerous to tidier people (no garbage) as they overpopulate and their territories overlap (happening now). They’re becoming overly curious, but we haven’t needed to use any of the Brenneke slugs for bear, yet. The cougars tend to be very reclusive and are only rarely dangerous to those who walk in the dark without looking behind them (big, stalking cats see that). They have killed a pet or two, and some livestock once in a great while. ...only know the presence of the big cats through an occasional road sighting in headlights and very often now through seeing their tracks (no nail prints, numbers of toes,...) and other signs.
As for livestock, well, we do protect livestock when necessary. ...not very often in this remote area so far (on the Rockies). Only the elk herds are getting hit much by lions and wolves (elk hoof here and an elk hoof there, as each herd passes back and forth).
We’ll trade all of our mountain lions for those African lions. [Little ironic humor there.] African lions would be easier to keep an eye on and increase revenues from tourism. ;-)
I agree. It should be involuntary manslaughter at the least.
Involuntary cause he’s certifiably schizophrenic. But there
are lots of schizophrenics who don’t kill, so there’s got
to be a category for that (criminally insane might be the
one but there has to be a cost). How can a society allow an
innocent man to be butchered, and let the perp go? No matter
what the reason.
Fine, he is not guilty because he is criminaly insane. So put him in a mental ward and execute him with electroshock therapy because he is criminaly insane.
Socialized pacifism.
I wouldnt want to go anywhere near a lunatic with a machete.
Ah the old saw.
Schizophrenics do NOT have multiple personalities. That is a completely different condition. Schizophrenia is a disease of the chemistry of the brain. Someone like this li character must have an extreme form of the illness, if that is what it is.
The doctrine of 'spread the other cheek.'
If you are a psycho you should be executed for murder same as any other killer
But the point is that he doesn’t realise that. People suffering a schizophrenic attack are responding perfectly rationally to an circumstance that is simply untrue.
It’s not just the Kennedys who get away with murder.
All judges are going to stand before THE JUDGE the day they die and account for their decisions and receive the consequences.
It’s a side effect of the “run and call 911” mantra that has been preached for years.
That and a healthy dose of cowardice.
The idea that someone is not guilty by reason of mental state is a gigantic load of crap. That should not be an option in a court of law. Instead, the third option should be “guilty, but mentally incompetent”, and the sentence of the length appropriate to the crime, but with a specialized facility. What’ll happen when this POS is out and about again? It won’t necessarily be the bus next time. I just hope someone is around to save his next potential victim, and puts the criminal out of OUR misery in the process.
