Safelink: How to Qualify: you may qualify if...
You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid.
OR
Your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government.
AND
No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.
You have a valid United States Postal Address. In order for us to ship you your free phone you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office. Sorry, but P.O. Boxes cannot be accepted.
In addition to meeting the guidelines above you will also be required to provide proof of your participation in an assistance program, or proof of your income level.
The logic that accompanies poverty is warped. It’s a kind of insanity.
The only cure I’ve ever seen for it is workfare. And that’s only effective in a percentage of the cases.
Such a simple thing, right? And then you start thinking about how to instill it in someone and it becomes horribly complex.
...Mrs. Zero, the self serving Socialist”, in this photo
is seen serving the beneficiaries of socialism.
There are basically five types of homeless.
Circumstancial homeless- those homeless dut to fire, natural disaster, death of bread winnner, loss of job, can't afford rent, etc. (these people might actually have jobs, cars and places to stay ocassionally)
Mentally Ill homeless- usually those who's support system of family and frieds has aged beyond being able to care for them, died off or has just given up taking care of them.
Substance Abuse homeless- Drunks and druggies
Runaway homeless- Underage who have run away from home.
Lifestyle homeless- those that choose to be homeless (bums)
perfect.
Yes. It’s simple, but not easy.
I’m confused—you’re talking apples and oranges.
Yes, conditions were far worse then. I’ve read Riis, and Jane Addams, and Frances Perkins, etc. Things were also more lawless, among the very poor-however, if it impinged upon society as a whole—it was dealt with harshly
The post is about people now who are not really poor, who have many useless amenities provided by others’ labor, as well as their own criminal activities in many cases, and whose bad behavior is allowed, even excused away, and who have no qualms in many cases about asking for more handouts or committing crimes against anyone.
PS—If you haven’t yet, read Low Life by Luc Sante. If you liked the stuff you mentioned, I think you’ll like it.
Walter Williams said it best one- if God told you you were going to be condemned to be poor for the rest of your life, but he would allow you to choose which country to be poor in, which would you choose?
The poor in our country (financed with the ‘war on peverty’ from our pockets) live like kinds compared to other countries
Someone (likely an observant Freeper) posted a large sign on the telephone pole next to where he stands: "Don't give this guy money, he has a cell phone." They placed it about 20 feet up so that the guy wouldn't just rip it down.
I love it. Funny, though, the guy must have his "regulars" that donate, because he hasn't moved. The stupidity of people is endless.
Many years ago I was whining about the “unfairness” of something or other and a friend asked me “What are you willing to do to fix it?” Not “who are you going to go to for help?” or any other weaselly wimpy question. He asked what I, personally, was going to do to improve my situation. It stuck with me (obviously). The people claiming poverty would be well served if they asked themselves that question daily. Wake up and say “What am I going to do today to make my life better, to make life better for my family?”
Buddy of mine used to volunteer at a food pantry. He told me that he stopped when he noticed that the people coming in for help, generally drove a better car than he did.
I don’t think anyone’s mentioned that, after taking her picture, the phone is probably now broken....
I have dated a few females that fit the same mold.
I finally got lucky. ;)
I would rather be lucky than good anyday!
Geeze ... Then I must have read a pack of lies, and lived my life on another planet, because the "homeless" of the '40's, '50's & '60's were called bums, and suffered from those very same things.
Apprentice drug dealers....
Kudos to the ‘mean old bat’. Give me another 5 years, and that title is mine!!!
Stop your whining all of you conservative, heartless people. They need those cell phones. They have a right to cell phones. How else do you expect them to keep in touch with their dealers?
The Health Department needs to come inspect that kitchen.
Michelle Obama doesn’t have on a hair net.
