Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

There is no older secretary. They fired all the permanent staff and installed their inner circle and friends thereof.

I hadn't heard about that.

You are absolutely right, from my experience. A friend of mine graduated from Harvard. He admitted they are told there that they are being groomed for "managing" not doing the work of peons. They are also encouraged to criticize other's efforts, rather than burn the night oil to come up with better ideas. At least he said that was his "education." No wonder our country is in a mess. Colleges are producing people who all want to be chiefs, and no one wants to be indians. The kids today are coddled, whether in an ivy league school or a local community college.

What this country REALLY needs is bringing back - with strong emphasis - TRADE SCHOOLS on a level with today's technology, and for the basics too. No more spending 4 years partying and paying outrageous costs so professors can turn them into liberals or socialists. We need education from people who actually have worked in the world to teach other kids how to really work, how things do work; and how they can get gratification and pleasure from doing, building and fixing things.

Too many don't even know how to replace a light bulb! I am serious. My neighbor and I laughed when her son emailed her that he had to buy a new lamp because his was not working. (Now this is a kid studying Business Administration.) When she went to visit him and picked up the lamp...guess what...the bulb had just burned out, LOL. That's today's coddled kids for you!

0 is being trashed in a foreign newspaper by his new best friend forever Colin Powell.

If this is true, then it seems that certain people are hinting that BO should step down. Will he do that?

Can you imagine this guy being President when 9/11 happened? We would have had many more acts of terror on our land. How can anyone not see that he is way over his head and has gone down for the 3rd time?

____________________________________________________________

You’re exactly right - but I’m very frightened as these terrorists are not stupid. They see this idiot asleep at the wheel and I’m afraid what they have in mind for our country next will make 9/11 seem like backyard fireworks.

Someone needs to tell this idiot that he’s making our entire country look weak.

Friend of mine served in the WH during Clinton’s first term as a local liaison to foreign dignitaries. He tells some incredible horror stories about snubbing national leaders and making grave errors like thinking the president of a country really runs it and not the general who appointed him. This stuff cost us billions of dollars and a lot of face.

You never heard a peep from the media. That Obama’s gaffes are getting out does not bode well for our nation or the world.

He voted present 119 times in the Senate. Who’d would have thunk he’s a go getter.

2nd, just to round things out, as a little stocking stuffer, Gordon Brown gave President Obama a first edition of Sir Martin Gilbert’s seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill. Mark Steyn on NRO

I think Obama took the Churchill books as an insult. Obama hates Chuchill. In addition to this quote, Churchill penned some rather scathing descriptions of Muslims in Africa, which I am sure that Obama took very personally.

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” - Winston Churchill

Five years ago he was an Illinois State Senator - they are trained lap dogs who are expected to vote their leader’s way and not think about anything but reelection.

I hadn't heard that either. No wonder there seems to be no understanding of protocol, diplomacy and tact in the WH and it is all such a mess. No wonder Michelle does not dress properly at public appearances. Who'd they bring in to advise them - community organizers or gang leaders from the streets of Chicago?

It wasn’t BO it was the guy who runs the teleprompter. He was out ill and they had no replacement.

My sources are impeccable, anonymous ... and imaginary.

You are right. They are not dummies and are just biding their time to hit us again. They know that this so called President is not very bright and will do nothing to protect this country. I sometimes think that is exactly what he wants to happen.

"Oh bull crap. He is clueless and ignorant of history".

I am soooo tired of the yapping heads on TV yammering on about how smart the president is...the guy is just plain stupid by any measure.
