Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

Cut out all the jetting around the country and parties at taxpayers’ expense and maybe the poor widdle baby won’t be so tired.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this was true as he has never done anything, period. But, it is surprising that “sources close to the White House” are actually saying this out loud to someone. Why?

"the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk"

You can't just vote "Present" when you're POTUS.

This whole episode begs a large question:

If they can so badly botch the visit of a PM, what else are they botching?

What else are they screwing up real bad, but no one has noticed quite yet?

Can you imagine what a fiasco we’ll be in six months from now?

President Bush must have been in better shape physically and mentally ‘cause he took on 9/11, war, economy, the MSM, and everything else seemingly without effort.

(Blessings on GW and his family)

I’d bet this guy has a meltdown well before his term is up.

#####

I forecast this quite a while ago. Which event will give us either President Biden or President Pelosi.

IOW, we are screwed, no matter what!

I guess, but, is it just leaking to be leaking or is there a motive? No one in their right mind would think letting this out would generate anything other than ridicule given his relative youth.

Sweet Mary and Joseph, that’s not the excuse they gave, is it??? Holy carp, even if it was true - and the cure is to stop jetting across the country for every 25 jobs “created” - don’t put that weakness on display for our sworn enemies with a track record of miscalculation to see. That’s just plain reckless.

“Anyone miss George W. Bush yet???”

I wonder if any of those, who liked to spell his name wrong, would like to learn to spell George right now.

What a “o” moron! Can’t find it in himself to treat a VIP with respect due him...
