After saying the economy has fallen off a cliff, legendary investor Warren Buffett this morning rapped political leaders for not being united enough in dealing with what he called an economic Pearl Harbor about six months ago.
Buffett, who supported Barack Obama in the election, didnt let Democrats skate, but he particularly singled out the GOP.
They really do have an obligation to support things that are clearly designed to fight the war in a big way, Buffett said on CNBCs Squawk Box this morning.
I think that the Republicans have an obligation to recognize this as an economic war and realize you need one leader, he said in a pitch for leaders to unite the way they did after Pearl Harbor.
But he also said he understood why the GOP might gripe, since the Democrats have been using the crisis to push all sorts of things.
You cant expect people to unite behind you if youre trying to jam a bunch of things down their throat, Buffett said.
The Oracle of Omaha also hasnt been entirely impressed with the way the White House and Congress have been explaining the huge problems to America.
Weve had muddled messages, he said.
Nevertheless, he echoed President Obamas position that government has a huge role to play in getting the economy working again, which Buffet said could take five years if things go poorly.
Government is going to play an enormous factor in how fast it (confidence) comes back, Buffett said.

Warren Buffett has turned into a drooling, senile old man
The GOP should unite behind Rush.
In fact, the GOP *MUST* unite behind Rush, or they will be DOA in the next election.
And rather than having Rush LEAD the party as he has, there should emerge from among the Republicans a statesman who can articulate the Conservative Heart as well as or better than Rush.
And such a statesman must NOT criticize Rush, no matter *WHAT* Rush says, but remain above it all.
When questioned about Rush’s remarks, such a statesman should say somthing like, “Rush is passionate, and he is right.”
Pressed for clarification, such a statesman should simply say, “Look for him on your local AM station, and see for yourself.”
And then stampede like a thundering herd.
Bullocks, Buffet.
He’s a master at playing two sides against one another, and then reaping the rewards for himself.
This is a very good example of how he became Warren Buffett.
Its also a good example of why nobody should listen to him on political matters.
I have a theory about really rich people and their support for totalitarian communism.
As was already said, they’ll still maintain their lifestyle no matter what happens to the country. And, they can’t live much “higher” than they already are.
My theory is that they want there to be a greater DIFFERENCE between their lifestyle and ours. And since they’ve pretty much maxed out, the only way to increase the difference is to make everyone else live starving and shivering in the dark.
From a May 2008 interview with Buffet
The interviewer, Becky Quick, asked Buffett to pretend for a moment that she was John McCain. She then asked, “Is there anything I can do, any economic issue I can get behind, that would actually make you think twice about potentially supporting me?”
Buffett replied: “I would say that if you felt the tax burden should be shifted in a significant way to the super-rich and away from the middle class, I would say that would make me re-evaluate you.”
Quick/McCain: “So I could eventually gain your support come November?”
Buffett: “Well, in the end I vote on issues now. I think it’s pretty clear in many major areas what all three candidates would do.”
Then he said, chuckling, that it was “unlikely” he would back McCain “unless he has a serious change, a lobotomy or something like that.”
Buffett explained: “I don’t think McCain is going to change his views to be in accord with mine. I admire him a lot. I think he’s an absolutely first-class human being, and if the Republicans are going to elect somebody I hope it’s John McCain.
“But he has too many ideas that are different than I do, particular in terms of what I would call social justice.”
“I think perhaps that Buffet has completely lost his marbles.”
Something like that, he is just another zombie, like the millions of others, that, ahhhh, here let me let someone you all know & love explain it better than I can.

“Buffett: GOP Should Unite Behind Obama”
Where’s that animation of people jumping into a big hole in the ground?
I've got a better idea - 0bama and his thugs should unite behind The Country, instead of trying to destroy it.
Nailed it
Buffet can Stuffit
Buffet is going senile.
In Obama’s speech, he used the word “PILLARS”.....isn’t ISLAM the religion based on “PILLARS”?????? hmmmmm.
Frightening.
huh? Jimmy Buffett is a not so distant cousin of Warren. they are both very wealthy Democrats AND Obama supporters.
I think old geezers like Buffet and Bill Gates’s father ought to realize that not everyone has millions and can handily spare the relatively small amount of taxes that their lawyers and accountants remit to the IRS.
Until they try raising three or four children on $35,000-$50,000, they should keep their mouths shut.
