The measure, which was raised as a committee bill by the Democratic co-chairs of the influential judiciary committee, would allow the finances of local parishes to be run by lay councils and would essentially remove power from Catholic pastors, who would serve in an advisory role. Opponents say the bill is clearly unconstitutional and would violate the First Amendment regarding the right to freedom of religion.
After an outcry over the bill over the weekend, Rep. Michael P. Lawlor and Sen. Andrew McDonald said Monday that they are not advocating for the meaure. A spokesman for McDonald said the matter is a committee bill, and the concept's original language came from concerned constituents in lower Fairfield County.
"It has been incorrectly characterized that this legislation originated from the two of us as an attack on the church and freedom of religion,'' Lawlor and McDonald said in a statement. "That is not the truth, and the facts do not support such a claim.''
They added, "Despite what has been portrayed, we have not endorsed nor are advocating for this proposal.''

Healy rejected the idea that the bill was actually a request by Fairfield County Catholics who were concerned about embezzlements in the church.
"This bill is a committee bill and would only see the light of day with the support and blessing of its leadership," said Healy. "Now, it seems clear that Democratic Party in Connecticut believes the state of Connecticut should be deciding how our churches are run."

I have no doubt there are constituents in SW Connecticut who would vote to hang every Catholic from a yardarm, which makes me kind of wonder why those legislators sought to blame them. Is this the start of an ethnic war?

So, what do I have to do to get my wording into a committee bill that will be taken up by the Democrat-infested judiciary committee?

In my archdiocese, the archbishop put all the individiaul church properties into trusts or something like that so that money mongers could not attach them.
Hmmmm.
One more step to making Christianity illegal in this country. We had better fight back now or the basic foundation of this country will be lost.

On her radio program this morning Laura mentioned that there were a pair of sodomites (my term) who agitated on behalf of this bill. I am not clear if she was referring to the state senators or the “parishoners” who supposedly requested this.

I couldn’t help but think of Mexico when I first read this, when the Church got too powerful in Mexico they confiscated all their property and tried to kill all their priests.

I was born in Connecticut, lived there 9 days. I never had an urge to return to the land of my birth. Now I have a strong urge to not go to that whole part of the country.
