Call to Action: St. Louis region FReeper Convention

I'm looking to set up a FReep meet, convention, or whatever for the St. Louis and Metro East (Illinois) areas. If anyone wants to travel a long distance they are more than welcome.

Let's throw some ideas around St. Louis area FReepers. I think we can set up a decent event considering the turnout for the Tea Party. Ideas are welcome. I figure if we have a good turnout we can set up either a quarterly, semi-annual, or annual event. Let's get with it.

What did you have in mind? Something like a main speaker + smaller sessions and mingling, or something more informal like food & mingling?

It really depends on what kind of commitment we can get. If we go with a large weekend type convention it's going to take serious planning and money. I'm all for that but I really don't want to go at it alone.

We could start with a little meet and greet and go from there.

If we're looking for possible things to actually do - it occurs to me that the Heritage Foundation just released a new documentary on missile defense. I've been in touch with them as regards a screening I hope to do near me, and I'm sure we could do one as part of the convention. (If there was interest.)

Well, I don’t live there, but whatever. Finding a place might be the hardest thing - and I can’t offer any help with that.

I’m in the inner ring municipalities and would be happy to help. May I suggest a meeting place somewhere very central and somewhat known to both sides of the river keeping in mind the highway closure. I saw a few suggestions for west county - some of us need a GPS unit out there and that’s quite a haul for the people in Illinois.
