Democrats loose the dogs
Toledo Blade ^ | 3/14/2009 | Jack Kelly

SAMUEL Joseph Wurzelbacher, Rick Santelli, and Jim Cramer owe much of their 15 minutes of fame to Saul Alinsky, a Chicago Marxist who died in 1972. Mr. Alinsky is considered to be the father of "community organizing" as the path to social revolution. A year before his death he published a book, Rules for Radicals, which distilled what he had learned from his experiences, his reading of Marx and Lenin, and from his associations with crime boss Al Capone and labor leader John Lewis.

Rule 11 is: "Pick a target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don't try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame."

In other words, engage in character assassination. Your opponent is not someone with whom you disagree. He or she is an enemy who must be destroyed.

Democrats are in power in large part because of how successful they and their allies in the news media were in demonizing former President George W. Bush. But with Mr. Bush back at the ranch, a new villain had to be found. The White House chose radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh because Mr. Limbaugh is unpopular with people who do not listen to his program.

"Presidents throughout history have kept lists of political foes," said former Bush strategist Karl Rove. "But the Obama White House is the first I am aware of to pick targets based on polls."

Mr. Limbaugh's already impressive audience has nearly doubled since the attacks on him began. But, said Obama supporter Camille Paglia, the attacks on Rush have "made the White House look like an oafish bunch of drunken frat boys."

Yes, funny that this appears in the same Toledo Blade that bashed Rush.

Love Camille Paglia’s reply. And she’s right.

Rush talks about how friendly she & he have been over time, and he’s been highly complimentary about her intelligence as a person. In fact, when Rush’s staff compiled recorded salutations last August for his 20th Anniversary, Camille Paglia was one who did offer a recorded message of congratulations to him.

Looks like Zer0Bambi, Is running (grasping) out of people (per rule #11) to blame.

"Socialism is great until you run out of someone elses money" Margaret Thatcher

However....

and this is not something that is understood by Democratic activists in full right now because they are in triumpahalist mode, Rules for Radicals can be used by both sides.

More and more Republican campaign people are starting to pick up Alinsky's masterwork as a tool for using the Democrats' weapons against them.

Best,

Chris

The idiocy of the right in continuing to rail against abstractions such as ACORN, the Associated Press, the NYT, etc. is astounding.

PEOPLE run these institutions. Target them

Hussein Obama is such an idiot. Always looking for someone to blame for his failures.

Good point. I have not heard anything at all about Saul Alinsky’s influence on Obama and Hillary Clinton anywhere in the MSM. I have only heard about it on websites like this one. I don’t think I have even heard the talk radio guys talk about Obama and his ties to Alinsky’s organization.

Jack Kelly, a former Marine and Green Beret, was a deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force in the Reagan administration. You will find his articles on Real Clear Politics, Jewish World Review, and I'm sure other sources. That he still is published in the Blade is interesting since they have for many years had an editorial stance divergent from his...

Good for Rush. Maybe that’s one reason why the Obamabots decided to pick a fight with Rush, because Rush wants to tell the truth about Obama and his Alinsky influence.

If more people knew about Alinsky, they would recognize this campaign against Rush is right out of Alinsky’s playbook.

Indeed. But remember when the Bush administration went out against Valery Phlane, the media defended her.

The attack on Rush makes the White House look, can I say this, unprofessional. It makes them look childish. It makes them seem like they are focused on the wrong things. It makes it look like they are more into political score keeping than the political rhetoric about changing the tone of our politics would suggest. It makes it seem like the Obamabots are keeping a list and checking it twice, a list of all their political enemies, updated daily. It makes it seem like they want to keep track of and get even for, all slights, real and imagined.
