THREE-YEAR-OLD Mehul Kumar is lucky to be alive after being speared through the torso with a 3-foot (1 metre) iron rod.

The boy, from Jharkand, India, was rushed to the hospital after he impaled himself falling off a terrace and onto a rod last week.

The boy was fully conscious when he arrived at the hospital. Doctors removed the rod during a 4-hour operation and said he had lost a lot of blood and suffered some injuries, but "nothing major."

He also looks too scared to budge.

I guess they've updated his tetanus shot . . . poor (lucky) little fellow.

Amazing that no vitals were damaged (including arteries). I doubt he would have survived the trip to the hospital with a liver artery breached.

Oh my. Prayers up for a full recovery. If this were my child, I would be frantic. Poor little one. I only want to comfort the baby.

Something similar happened to the brother of a childhood acquatance.(OK, OK it was an “older” girl, and I though she was HOT). But anyway, he fell off a ladder onto a flag pole at Scout Camp, impaling himself on the pole. When I met him he had an impressive scar, and some muscles in need of rehab. In fact, that’s why I met him, we were taking him to the public pool for some Physical Therapy. He had a hard time getting in and out of the water, but once there, did fine.

My younger sister lived in Greece for a while with her Greek boyfriend's family. Multiple generations lived in the same building, and would add on another floor as needed. In the village she was in, she said many building roofs had rebar sticking up and were unfinished in case they wanted to add on another floor in the future.
