(CBS/AP) A group of U.S. Military Academy graduates came out of the closet Monday in a bid to overturn the ban on gays in the military and help West Point create an environment of tolerance and acceptance as they educate future officers, reports the Military Times.
The 38-member "Knights Out" contacted the military academy's administration seeking to provide an "open forum" for gay troops and Army leaders, the paper reports.
The Pentagon's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy was instituted after President Bill Clinton tried to lift the ban on gay service members in 1993. It refers to the military practice of not asking recruits their sexual orientation. In turn, service members are banned from saying they are gay or bisexual, engaging in homosexual activity or trying to marry a member of the same sex.
Since it was implemented, 12,500 soldiers have been discharged, according to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which has actively lobbied for the law's repeal, reports the paper.
1st Lt. Dan Choi, a National Guardsman and Knights Out member knows the group's public announcement may result in disciplinary action.

Is their motto “I’ve Got Your Back”?
OK.....young officers disobeying direct orders....your career is over before it even starts....
So here’s a story urging us to be politically correct about West Point graduates. We’re supposed to be politically correct about our military officers who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transylvanian or whatever trans this and that is.
Part of the whole discussion about don’t ask/don’t tell is that the military is different from civilian society. Civilian society has the luxury of dealing with all this political correctness and people’s gender identity issues, and people who want operations to cut off this and that. The military shouldn’t be forced to spend its time on this kind of stuff.
I have no idea what their motto, but some “libertarian” will be along shortly to educate us about “their rights”.

Make sure they have pink rifles so the rest know!....
* sigh *
Yeah...it's called Band
“Tolerance”
I wonder, will the pedophiles also feel emboldened now or is there really much of a difference?
In an enlightened society there can be no rational basis for discrimination on criteria such as race, skin color or ethnicity. However, as with multiculturalism, the introduction of morally significant criteria changes the analysis of discrimination. Discrimination against harmful conduct is entirely rational, and in many cases necessary.
Discrimination is now synonymous with racial prejudice in the public mind. The "gay" movement has exploited this association to legitimize its own claims by adding itself to the list of minorities in anti-discrimination statutes.
Moral discrimination is "rational" discrimination.
Gay cadets throwing a hissy fit? Lemme guess, just like attention-whores at a gay=pride parade, they are not getting their 15-minute attention that they crave.
Every one of these appointees to the USMA had an alternate. How would you like to be the alternate appointee to one of these officers? Finding out the person who was given a USMA education ahead of you was ineligible for military service...what an injustice. These people know who they are, and know who they lost out to. I feel badly for them. Hopefully they are serving our country faithfully and well through another means of commissioning, while these individuals who got a free first-class education carry on their own personal crusade. These individuals should be billed for their education, since they are unable to complete the required service.
“open forum”
That is gay-speak for a place to hook up.
There is no “homosexual lifestyle” — it is simply about unlimited, on-demand, irresponsible, no-strings-attached sex.
Wow....talk about an immediate end to your career.
The Eunuchs have always covertly coveted the throne.
Same ol’ same ol’.
“If the services had not been compelled to admit women to combat, this might not have happened. The left has used the idea that discrimination of any kind is always, always bad. Yet discrimination is what keeps people from going to a quack instead of a doctor to have major surgery. Discrimination is the ability to put your hat on your own head and not someone else’s.
* sigh * “
Indeed. In their efforts to be “anti-discrimination”, the whole aim of the Left has become to make the world completely undiscerning and totally indiscriminate. Which of course leads to total insanity. They aren’t above discrimination themselves. Don’t they realize whenever they vote Democrat they discriminate against Republicans?
I couldn't agree more.
