Stop Proposed New Calif. Smog Test Law
SEMA website ^ | 03-17-09 | dave

Here it is, AB 859 now in transportation committe in california. this would require yearly smog testing of cars 15 years and older with 1975 cut off. See below link listing teh proposed law, and the list of committee members with contact info:

http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=62541

Slowly but surely they have been increasing smog laws, registration fees and now this, yearly smog testing, which can coat nearly $100 for advanced enhanced area dyno tests.

This will effect many classic cars, cars that may not be driven much at all (my 1980 Triumph will now require yearly smog testing, it is only used less than 200 miles per year!!) Please see attached link of the SEMA website, it lists all the State Assmbley members on the Transportation Committe. Please call or write tehm to vote NO.

I called all the assembly persons on the committe, actually spoke with assemblyman Martin Garrick from San Diego area. Real nice guy, He will vote NO on this, he is a car nut himself, knew about 914's and 356's, so we had a nice little chat. He said the main folks that are for this bill are the democrats on the commitee. So please call and voice your opposition. At least we have one really good assembly person there. hopefully we will get more on our side.

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

California "rulers" hate poor people???...

...God forgive me, but I love it!

The more oppression applied by dumbass politicians, the quicker people will get fed up enough to possibly hang the bastards at the most populous intersection of the town at high noon.

My 1974 Porsche 914 was setting me back $1200 every two years for a tune up and Smog II certificate. I only paid $3800 initially for the car. I was driving the car less than 500 miles between smog checks. The bastard politicians were bleeding me for no reason. I moved to Idaho. Now I don't have to do that. The car is parked and only costs me a registration every couple years...and it's really cheap. Screw California. Moving was a great idea. It remains that way.

1975 and earlier is the traditional point of exemption nationwide, I thought.

Really nice. I have an old ‘84 truck that I use only for going to the dump once a month (I live out in the boonies). I put maybe 100 miles a year on it. Looks like I’ll have to get rid of it and buy a pre-’75 truck now.

Yet another reason I moved out of that POS state. I used to love fiddling with cars, up to my supercharged 94 Mustang. Ended up selling it to a buddy in Oregon, just too tired of the BS to keep passing tests.

The reality of CARB testing is that being clean for the sniffers is not enough, all your "parts" must be blessed by CARB too. They can fail you if they spot ONE aftermarket part that is not CARB blessed.

It is not about smog, but as in so many other things, it is about controlling you.

I know a lot of illegal aliens and they buy their registration off of a street corner. Their cars are black with soot because their mechanics work out of the back of trucks and have no idea what they are doing. This will not bother them at all.
