Or is it the Ice Hockey? We try to be fair and lend your American teams a few of our good players, so it surely can’t be that?

There just isn’t much for a conservative to like or respect about Canada, in our history Canada has traditionally been the place for our left, our cowards, and our anti Americans to flee to.

New Zealand has, for a very long time, been the home of the world’s largest Polynesian city, Auckland. It is a longstanding tradition amongst the Polynesians that it isn’t nice to drop nuclear bombs on their island Paradises — which is something that France persisted in doing on Mururoa Atoll long after the US were finished with Kwajalein and Bikini Atoll...
In my view, New Zealand’s anti-nuclear stance is a direct reaction to France’s persistence in nuclear testing at Mururoa.
The unfortunate side-effect is that American nuclear-powered vessels get caught up in all of that. With the added complication of America having a “neither confirm nor deny” policy on whether any given ship is carrying nuclear arms, American naval vessels — whether nuclear or not — have been unable to visit us.
All of this was an unfortunate reason to alter ANZUS and keep American vessels out of our waters. I think that, given time, the anti-nuclear stance will be modified for commonsense, once cooler heads prevail.
My service is early 70s and then an Airborne LRRP Guard unit 83 to 86.
The reason Canada went to Afghanstan is because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time in its history. Afghanistan is a NATO show and Canada is part of NATO.
I went through a pretty cool assault course and got my Canadian jump wings in 79.

From the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939 to Pearl Harbor in 1941, Americans who wanted to fight Hitler took the train to Canada and enlisted in the Canadian army and Royal Canadian Air Force. Pilots especially went to Canada to fight because they could get a chance to fly.
The Canadians were in the two world wars long before we got involved.

You might be reacting against the all-pervasive Toronto which, admittedly, does take alot of getting used to. British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and (surprisingly) Quebec are all great places for conservatives.

In the Sixties what you stated was true, but that was an anomaly. Before the Sixties, Canada was the place where Americans went to fight our enemies in the world wars by showing solidarity with our British cousins.
The conversations that I have in person with Canadians are very similar to the conversations that I used to have with the French Special Forces in France, we all agree that their countries are weak and liberal.

See my post #32. FYI: Iraq was/is part of the WOT. Canada's pitiful defense forces couldn't have mustered enough people to participate in both operations. The UK and Australia did along with Spain and a number of others.
Bottom line, what the f*** difference does it make? Is Canada's commitment to the war on terrorism diminished in your pea brain because they chose to take a pass on Iraq?
Canada has not had as much skin in the game as others, especially the US. Canada didn't participate in Vietnam either. Canada's defense forces have dwindled down to next to nothing. They have relied on the US to defend them while just paying 1.1% of GDP on defense.

Jeez, that’s a new one on me. Hadn’t heard about that, and I sure hope it isn’t true: if it is, there would be no better time for America to realize its Manifest Destiny to become a continental power.
A country without a military is not a country at all. Aside from good manners there would be nothing to stop the US from annexing the Canadian provinces outright — save only our Mounties, and I doubt there is enough room in all the lockups in Canada to hold even one US Division.
I have often speculated that the annexation of Canada by the US would happen in my lifetime. I hadn’t thought it might happen quite so soon.
