WASHINGTON -- The House of Representatives passed a measure Wednesday that supporters are calling the most sweeping reform of nationally-backed volunteer programs since AmeriCorps. But some opponents are strongly criticizing the legislation, calling it expensive indoctrination and forced advocacy.

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act -- sponsored by Reps. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y, and George Miller, D-Calif. -- was approved by a 321-105 vote and now goes to the Senate.

Yes. I am getting a redirect message too but isn't that always the case on News threads??? I am not sure. It does bring me to the SOURCE article after a second or two. I have had this happen on other threads.

Is it something I did when posting thread.

Please let me know. Thanks.

"The Jay Leno, trip to CA was to divert everyone’s attention away from this Communist slavery bill."

So true. Maybe we can somehow get him to stay in California or better yet he is close to his Hawaii "home"..why doesn't he go on a vacation. He is probably tired from working 60-70 days in a row without a vacation day, only weekends off. He must be exhausted.

I am sure his TELEPROMPTER could use the rest!:)

I will have to take another look at those Republicans who thought it was wise to “ABSTAIN.” Goofballs...Don’t they have any PRIDE in themselves?

Ayes: 248 (Democrat: 247; Republican: 1)
Nays: 174 (Democrat: 2; Republican: 172)
Abstained: 9 (Democrat: 4; Republican: 5)

“They can try to turn this into “involuntary servitude” but it won’t stand. “

It probably won’t look like “mandatory” when it happens.

But, if you expect to get certain Federal benefits, you had better have put in your work hours. Like “free” health care for seniors, or “free” college for kids.

And once these benefits are “free” economics will shift so that the only way to get them is by providing labor to the Central Government

No, I don't believe it's anything you did.

It's the page itself, it has to have a redirect in it.

>> So you can sit back high on your laurels of not deserving this because you didn’t vote for Obama. But you better get an orange vest to sit with.

You go slave for Bambi, hon, if that’s what you prefer. Maybe you look good in orange; I don’t know.

I’ll go to jail for murder before I’ll spend ten minutes slaving for the Bambinazis.

If you have the guts, put your money where your mouth is and bet against me. But I don’t think you really do.

I just emailed my Congressman Tom Petri and thanked him for voting NAY to this involuntary servitude bill.

Great news. Nice touch.
Way to go!
