Traffic cameras billed as answer to Chicago's budget deficit

Traffic cameras billed as answer to Chicago's budget deficit Red-light cameras have been combined with short yellow lights to catch drivers and raise city revenues across the country. Now an insurance-checking camera company has presented Chicago with a new twist on the idea—instead of speeders, go after the uninsured.

The Windy City, like a lot of other metropolitan areas of late, is facing major budget deficits in the face of the recession's strong bite. State and local governments alike have been hunting for additional sources of revenue, so it's not surprising that a Chicago alderman would entertain the possibility of installing red light cameras along the city's major thoroughfares and intersections. This time around, though, the company trumpeting the addition of these digital watchdogs isn't portraying them as useful tools for catching speeders—instead, camera provider InsureNet claims to have developed "a simple yet complete answer that delivers totally accurate, instant insurance status verification. An additional unique advantage is that this system is also non-invasive, ensuring protection for every insurer and policyholder."

Last I heard, it was a $500 fine for driving without insurance in Illinois. Unless of course you're an illegal alien and can't speak English.

Maybe that’ll work out better for them than their plan a few years back to send out parking tickets at random to people all over the state.

I got one at a time when I had never been to Chicago. I’ve since been there but try to avoid it when possible.

Oh yeah, don’t cut any BS govern ment programs. Nope instead, lets try harder to stick it to the tax payer. Sounds like a perfect idiot liberal solution.

You notice they always have revenue shortages, but never can cut spending. They just trot out their wailing misfits for the TV cameras, whining about potential budget cuts.

So.... If you can’t afford insurance, you still can reach into your butt and pull out $500 to send to the State to pay your fine.

Who else besides me thinks this isn’t going to work?

I haz a better idea.

Put CAMERAS in CHICAGO POLITICIANS OFFICES.

That might help with the budget problems.

And a product of that mentality now sits in the Oval Office.

Same thing with sub prime mortgages, designed for blacks enabling them with welfare and unemployment checks to buy mortgages.
Initially spreading throughout the country then the world after Wall Street did the bidding of Mrs. Franks and Dodd by selling these values worldwide.
A global economic crisis started in the US spread worldwide.

This is a really bad idea.
Chicago drivers aren’t the worst in the country, but they’re right up there re: being in a hurry.
I have personally witnessed a wreck caused by those cameras - a guy was caught in the intersection and sped up then tried to turn right.

I’m up in the northwest suburbs, and even 20 miles outside the city it’s a giant sanctuary for gangbanger illegals. There are beater 91 Camrys and such everywhere with “temp tags” that have clearly been on the car for years.

It’s just as clear that the driver’s “learned” to drive by being handed the keys to their cousin’s car and just hitting the gas. They just drive down the road in either or both lanes, putting the car where they want it and if you’re lucky you move your car before they hit it. If they want to pull out into 45 mph traffic, they just do.

If there are two lanes both directions and they notice their left turn too late, they’ll cut across the left lane and the two oncoming lanes with no signal or warning, and hopefully you’ll have somewhere to put your car in time. It’s hard to exaggerate...their cars literally travel the shortest distance between point A and B and anything in between is responsible for removing itself from their path.

The best (worst?) is when TWO such “drivers” meet at an intersection, both making illegal turns or running red lights. Since neither is used to making any attempt to slow or stop, it’s a roll of the dice as you watch collisions avoided by a split second.

No citizenship, no license, no tags, no insurance, no English, NO PROBLEM!
