Do you personally know any people with Down Syndrome or similar disabilities? Do you know their families?
I assure you I am. But I also assure you that I'm not a "compassionate conservative".
I don't. They make me queasy. I'll admit that I wouldn't dare say to them what I just said here. It would be very hurtful, and I don't do that.
What, you say? I just did. No, I'm trying to illustrate a point that we shouldn't get on our high horses every time someone says something that might be hurtful to somebody. Isn't part of what freedom of speech is about, and the antithesis of political correctness?
I do know a couple of families with children with Down Syndrome. The kids have a lot of love and joy and their families love them very much. How sad for you that you fear them. I am not politically correct - just aware of how much stupidity can hurt.
Well, there was a time in this country when political correctness wasn’t such an entity with a life of its own. (However, making fun of retarded kids was never kosher, and any decent person never thought of such a thing, but I digress.)
The flaming liberal socialist leftists have whined and howled and demonstrated on every occasion of any possible imagined “politically incorrect” action or word by anyone that there you have it and it’s hard to turn it back. Oh, and no one is MAKING YOU LOOK!! By all means don’t. Its my opinion that you don’t deserve to look, SO DON’T. You aren’t ruining those kids fun whatever you do.
Oh, I understand people like you. I was once young, good looking and up and coming. Then I married and gave birth to one extremely high IQ son, but then a few years later, my health broke and I had a son with Downs Syndrome and other birth defects. He only lived six weeks. - I’ve realized a lot of things from that experience; for one thing it has dawned on me what Scripture most likely means when it is written that the time will come “when the first shall be last, and the last shall be first”, and I also understood that THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE (having a child with birth defects is a part of the HUMAN CONDITION).
IF President Bush had made the same sort of a crack as President Obama did, he would NEVER have lived it down; but the affirmative action President can do whatever he likes and it is excused and covered up by the MSM.
I learned something else along the way, too. None of us, no matter how COOL, has the right to be ashamed of ANY other human being. It comes back to haunt you later, and you remember and then know the truth in full. Not an easy exercise.
Ouch. Ramirez sure knows how to make a point.
That’s an insult. The lady who played Aunt Esther was a real dear soul from what I’ve heard.
I have to say "amen" to that -- "compassionate conservative" has always been a smug, condescending, and insulting phrase. But not wanting to be subjected to "the freak show" has nothing to do with "compassionate" conservatism. It has to do with ROOT conservatism, which is live and let live. Nobody is forcing the Special Olympics on you. Respect others' rights to love them, and maybe they'll respect your right to dislike them. No skin off anybody's nose. THAT's basic conservatism.
Sure, Obama has the right to say anything he wants on National TV, and that's the way it should be. Indeed, it's fantastic and that freedom is serving us well: when the president of the United States says something so mind-boggingly stupid and juvenile on national TV, it tells tens of millions of people the truth about this goon. The words he spoke reveal complete lack of class, intuition, empathy, sensitivity, or understanding of his fellow Americans. It's not about the Special Olympics, Batrachian. It's about Obama's utter abandon of common manners and respect for his fellows. He has none, and it came through loud and clear.
If you think this is about the Special Olympics, you're way wrong, my FRiend.
True. That show really was hilarious.
Won’t be long before the HNIC will be doing the sag pants thing like all his bros. Heck he’s been showing his ass so might as well really show his ass.
Umm. HE wasn't acting. He is a Pop Culture Celebrity, and he is not President.
I’m almost afraid to ask what HNIC stands for.... don’t say it. Now, I can mock these people for their horrible lib beliefs and expect them to comport themselves appropriately to their station at this juncture but no racial slurs, okay?
Obama has turned into Zaphod Beeblebrox, whose job as President of the Galaxy (if you remember your Douglas Adams) was not to wield power but rather to draw attention away from those who do wield it. Wonder when he will get the extra head attached?
P.S. Checked your profile. Tourette’s Syndrome is spelled Tourette or Tourette’s.
No comparision. They were Good People. Obama is from the scum class, which knows no ethnic, or economic boundaries.
That book was hilarious - I forgot so much of it but remember just laughing out loud some 20 plus years ago when I read it.
Oh, remember the part about the one guy’s name and what it meant and it was this big long definition. I wish I could remember - it was so funny.
Don’t ask, don’t tell or the PC will get your tongue. Sorry, but you lost me in the second part!
How did I lose you? You mean how they comport themselves or the Tourette’s Syndrome???
Well said Finny
