Terence Corcoran: Is this the end of America?
National Post/Financial Post ^ | 03/19/2009 | Terence Corcoran

U.S. law-making is riddled with slapdash, incompetence and gamesmanship

Helicopter Ben Bernanke’s Federal Reserve is dropping trillions of fresh paper dollars on the world economy, the President of the United States is cracking jokes on late night comedy shows, his energy minister is threatening a trade war over carbon emissions, his treasury secretary is dithering over a banking reform program amid rising concerns over his competence and a monumentally dysfunctional U.S. Congress is launching another public jihad against corporations and bankers.

As an aghast world — from China to Chicago and Chihuahua — watches, the circus-like U.S. political system seems to be declining into near chaos....

“Is this the end of America?”

OPINION:

It feels like the beginning of the end and the end seems to be coming quickly.

Our country as a whole is not weak, but our leadership is weak.
Right now, the adage “you are as weak as your weakest link” comes to mind.

Am I right?

I pray I am totally wrong.

Only God knows.

Mistakes committed by Ignorance in a virtuous Disposition,
would never be of such fatal Consequence to the Publick
Weal, as the Practices of a Man whose Inclinations led
him to be corrupt, and had great Abilities to manage, and
multiply, and defend his Corruptions.

For some reason, this past week I imagined a scenario in which a year from now Obama on live TV says “I don’t know what I’m doing, ok? Are you happy now? I admit it, but you have no clue, either, so stop being so damned nasty to me!” and storming away.

I would add "just about totally corrupt" to our leadership being weak. This I have no doubts about.

Perhaps “the end” can be viewed as an opportunity for a do over.

Rome, Byzantine, etc., all governments fail when they tax the populous beyond the capacity to pay.

The government will likely fail but the country and it's countrymen will rise yet again.

This is not the end of America as we know it/sarc/it’s simply the Marxist plan being implemented by Othugo and his co-horts in the disassembling of a capitalistic democracy.

My tears for my country, The United States of America

Never give up the Fight against this marxist fraud
that is being perpetrated upon the American public.

It seems quite apparent that - projecting current trends in economics, demographics, and politics - the nation in 2012 and beyond will bear little resemblance to the American republic of even a generation past.

What seems to be emerging is the transformation of the United States into a variety of European-style socialist entity with diminished world influence and a crippled economy; a first-rate military increasingly hobbled by mediocre political leadership, crowds of cowardly foreign policy wonks, and an MSM increasingly inclined to bash America and embrace the sort of One-World, United Nations, multi-culti philosophy which has become so intellectually chic.

It will be increasingly run by armies of anonymous, staggeringly incompetent, unelected bureaucrats of a very pronounced PC and Leftist character, far more interested in their turf battles and preserving perks and privileges than in serving the people who pay their salaries.

With the continuing moral decline of the people, broadly speaking, and the “education” union maintaining their grip on the dumbing down of generations coming up - while, at the same time, continuing to indoctrinate them in the Leftist part line - there can be little hope, if any, that new generations of citizens will know of, much less understand, just what is the nature of the precious legacy of enlightenment and freedom, bequeathed them by the Founders and many generations of selfless patriots, that is being stolen from them.

In the end, America, once the richest and most powerful nation in the entire history of the world, protected on two sides by enormous stretches of ocean, and, for the rest, by a virtually indomitable military, will destroy itself from within.

Pretty stupid, but there it is.

No, it is not the end of the USA.

It is the end of politicians who sell us down the river.

This will ultimately be a good thing for our nation, please have patience and be brave. Regards, caddie.

Obviously, I am brave, or I wouldn’t stated my opinion.

We'll find out today as The Obammunist has called out his army of communist organizers to canvas the country and take down names of people who do not support his plans.

I would add "just about totally corrupt" to our leadership being weak.

The whole system has grown rotten to the core. What the American political system really needs is our equivalent of the Italian Tangenti Scandals of the early 1990s. About 1/3rd of the Italian parliament and over 2500 other nationally prominent citizens found themselves under indictment for corruption. Most of the major political parties in the country were swept away and replaced with newly organized or formerly minor parties.

While food for thought, I can’t abide the article. Inflation, our treatment of bankers and our business models won’t have very much affect on if America continues or “ends”. These are just symptoms.

Embracing cradle-to-grave socialism, usurping previously Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, destroying the family, rejecting God, flooding the nation with immigrants who won’t assimilate, and draining the treasury with unsustainable entitlements are the real signs that since the 1960s, we have begun our end.

The nation can ONLY survive with a moral, informed electorate. It remains to be seen if this describes the silent majority or not. If the moral informed portion of our populace is soundly outnumbered by immoral, apathetic, and uninformed voters, than we are doomed.

We’ll see. It won’t be one episode of hyper-inflation that ends us. If there is a moral silent majority, the more pain we have now economically, the more informed they will demand to be now that the wool is being pulled from their eyes, and the more they will reject secular communism.

I’m not optimistic, but I pray this describes most folks. I think we are crossing the threshold with the majority caring about nothing but their lifestyle, their garages filled with materialistic crap and a free ride, and they will surrender any freedom to secure it. JMHO.

Re: Obama’s book, “The Post American World”

Amazon.com Review

Book Description

“This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else.” So begins Fareed Zakaria’s important new work on the era we are now entering. Following on the success of his best-selling The Future of Freedom, Zakaria describes with equal prescience a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures. He sees the “rise of the rest”—the growth of countries like China, India, Brazil, Russia, and many others—as the great story of our time, and one that will reshape the world. The tallest buildings, biggest dams, largest-selling movies, and most advanced cell phones are all being built outside the United States. This economic growth is producing political confidence, national pride, and potentially international problems. How should the United States understand and thrive in this rapidly changing international climate? What does it mean to live in a truly global era? Zakaria answers these questions with his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination.”

In other words, “we will cease being a beacon of freedom and enlightenment for the rest of the world and will look like just any other third-world ghetto: starving to death and ruled by despots. Seems Obama wants to take us there, sooner rather than later.
