Sadly, I think a fair amount, if not most, of the students will be thrilled. TD Jesus will be replaced with a monument of the Obamessiah.

Sad.

There was a joke going around Georgetown when Clinton was president, during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, that things had gotten so bad that the faculty would probably award Bill Clinton an honorary Doctorate in Theology. It seemed like just a joke then. But only just. Notre Dame has a hit a new low with the plan to award Obama an honorary Law degree. It's so absurd.

I know — it is sad when the jokes become a reality.

Over four years ago, my youngest son was Baptized. We had the Baptism over Thanksgiving weekend, so my parents could visit and attend. USC always hosts ND the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it is a tradition for our family to make/serve turkey enchiladas for the game.

We invited our priest to join us for dinner and the game, but warned him we would be rooting for USC. He quipped, “That’s OK — USC is probably closer to Catholic anyway!”

I could never cheer for the Trojans, but I get the joke.
It’s sad what has happened to the colleges. It’s a real tragedy. A great loss for the Church and all of American society.

Here's a question: How does a Catholic priest say Mass at the altar in Sacred Heart Chapel, in the very presence of Christ, receiving the Blessed Sacrament, one minute and then walk back to his office and sign a piece of paper approving the award of an honorary Doctorate of Laws and providing a forum at Notre Dame's commencement for the most pro-abortion president in American history, a pro-abortion maniac who signed an executive order to fund abortions worldwide? How could that person possibly be a Catholic priest or any kind of Catholic and do that? How could this be explained apart from diabolical disorientation?

I really don’t understand it, but you have to know that Catholic priests all over the place supported Obama and other democrats. It is mind-boggling. Obama won the election at my sons’ Catholic High School, too — though most kids were screwing around. Ron Paul got nearly a quarter of the vote.

There's something wrong with that. And his economics won't work either, so the trade off - economic social justice instead of the unborn - is a crock. There' something seriously wrong with ordained men falling for that. But then most of the Obama supporters are probably fruitcakes and heretics. So they're not even really Catholics anyway.

Yeah, I think there are 2 categories of clergy that voted for Obama. There are the typical leftist clergy — and there are frightening number of them in the Catholic Church — who don’t care about abortion much and think that social programs are the most important thing. They would have supported most any democrat. Then there are those who bought into the hype and wanted to feel good about voting for the first black president and are now seeing what they’ve done.

I’m not so concerned about those who were duped by Obama as those who embrace the liberal ideology regardless of the candidate.

Quite a while back, I had a Jesuit Provincial superior sitting in my office one day, within eyeshot of the chapel, telling me he had voted for Clinton “for the social justice issues.” Just signing off the unborn for minimum wage or whatever (which will be worthless when the inflation hits). These people are so far gone in abandoning their faith and morality it is sickening.
