Three major retailers on Saturday laid out broad details of an alternative proposal they hope will fend off a deadlock over a hotly contested bill making it easier for workers to unionize.
Starbucks Corp., Whole Foods Market Inc. and Costco Wholesale Corp. are opposed to portions of the labor-friendly Employee Free Choice Act, which would take away the right of employers to demand secret-ballot elections by workers before unions could be formed. Under the legislation, unions could gain representation if a majority of workers sign cards authorizing it.
Still, the companies say they recognize that simply opposing the bill might prove futile given a union-friendly environment in Washington in which Democrats control Congress.

When George McGovern (Post #4) opposes it, you know the union thugs have moved BEYOND Communism.
It tells us that if it goes through there will be more business closings and unemployment numbers the nation has not yet seen.
Maybe not even in the Great Depression.
The first thing you do as a small business owner is close it (after unionization) and fire everyone.
And try it again under a new administration.
If even the uber-liberal Starbucks and Whole Foods are against it, what does that tell us?

Its interesting that Costco who is always portrayed as a “responsible” retailer and the anti-walmart by liberals and unionists is part of this.
I wouldn’t mind seeing one of those friendly barista chicks trying to compel me to sign up.

Uhhhmmm... it tells us that they fall into the “do as we say and not as we do” mentality like so many people?
It tells us that unionization of their young, ditzy, most likely very coddled workforce would quickly bankrupt them.

The progressives in Congress and the White House are definitely making enemies of friends at an incredible rate. There really are a lot of liberals in business, and I doubt many of them expected the attack they are now under.
You know what’s funny: the Starbucks idiots are probably the one’s that supported Obama and Democrats in the first place!!..”useful idiots” can you say that phrase..
Lanny Davis might have said this with a wink, nod, and a knowing elbow nudge because, I suspect, he knows full well that his alleged clients are about to lose; and the reason they could lose, it actually turns out that is there is no honor among thieves, and these businesses aren't among the current "ins".
You see, our Marxist president and his fellow travelers in Congress will always vote to max their own power and control.
If this leaves long-time business supporters out in the cold...it's no big deal to the "ins".
This is what happens as government moves left.
"Centralized control" means a narrower and narrower breadth of authority. Otherwise, the new regime invites demands to share control and power fights.
Old allies become new liabilities.
The radius of the "ins" circle is ever decreasing.
What those in Congress don't choose to comprehend is that, as we "progress" toward collectivism, it's a possibility that some of these "ins" could become liabilities as well.
Are there any positives for Starbucks and Whole Foods?
Well, one could say that they have been most...useful.

(From the looks of some of their charitable contributions and failure to pay taxes, maybe they like it even more!)
The rats want to stop this practice. If your business shuts down, you will not be able to reopen. In addition, the rats will extort closing costs from small businesses (and large businesses). This practice is common in Europe. The rats will pribe many small businesses with practices that limit competition. There is a new sheriff in town. These anti union practices will no longer be tolerated.
I thought Costco was union?
