Today I was in Costco. As I entered the papergoods area a demonstration woman approached me about a sale on Northern triple ply quilted bathroom tissue. It's my brand and I strongly support a soft 3 ply, but that's not my point. The demonstration woman went on to show me on the packaging that Georgia Pacific donates money to the Susan G Komen foundation. I stopped in my tracks and said " I wish you hadn't told me that. The Susan G Komen Foundation funds Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood ( or Planned Barrenhood) is the largest provider of abortions...

LAS VEGAS -- One of the three Las Vegas Metro police officers who shot and killed an armed man outside of a Summerlin Costco has been indicted by a grand jury for giving a firearm to a convicted felon. Thomas Mendiola, 23, was relieved from duty without pay earlier this year. Authorities said he gave a Sturm Ruger handgun to Robert Justice as a gift between July 10 and August 19 of last year. The grand jury indictment stated that Mendiola knew of Justice’s criminal past and conviction for theft. Mendiola along with Officers Josh Stark and William Mosher, fired...

A concealed carry killing raises dangerous questions. You don’t want to commit a crime in Las Vegas — at least not on TV. On the tube, you’ll be relentlessly pursued by a group of young, beautiful, highly educated and competent crime scene investigators who work in gleaming glass and steel labs surrounded by state of the art equipment that would make MIT green with envy. So ethical and competent are they — and the police force they serve — that if a molecule of evidence exists in the known universe, they’ll find it and brilliantly use it against a suspect...

Has anybody ever distributed a product with Costco? What are their business policies like? What type of information about my company are they going to ask for? I do not want to list my suppliers, list my profits, costs or other information. I heard that they drive a hard bargin. Would they ask for this information? Also what kind of information do I need to prove to them that my product is worth their floorspace?

Ruh roh! It appears that because of reasons surrounding the facts that while Costco has carried iPods and iTunes cards from their retail locations for quite a while now, Apple has never allowed them to sell Apple items on their webpage (like other retailers can) and Costco didn’t gain distribution rights for the iPad, Costco’s pulling the plug. Costco is said to be the third largest retailer and the largest membership warehouse dealer in the USA. Them stopping sales of Apple products completely is almost certainly going to be a stinger in Apple’s side.

The "Long Gray Line" is bringing pressure on the Vegas department following Erik Scott's death in a hail of bullets. It was a foregone conclusion that a coroner’s inquest in Las Vegas would find three Metro police officers justified in gunning down Erik Scott in a hail of bullets outside of a crowded Costco on July 10, even though five of the seven bullets hit him from behind, and at least one appeared to have been fired while Scott lay prone, dead or dying on the ground. Police were called to the store after an employee described Scott as both...

The emotionless voice of Samantha Sterner told jurors on Friday that her boyfriend, 38-year-old Erik Scott, carried a gun with him everywhere he went and that the officer who shot him to death July 10 was “out of line.”

Wentworth Eatherton, the husband of the previous witness, Annette, said he called into a public radio program recently when he heard Scott’s father and attorney saying things about the shooting that he said weren't true. Eatherton said they claimed the police didn't need to shoot Scott and that the police were only 2 feet away, but that wasn’t true, he said. Eatherton recalled words he heard Scott say while in the aisle at Costco.

This comes from a Vegas paper, so I'll summarize: Day 1 of the inquest into the police shooting of Eric Scott at a Las Vegas Costco emphasized the large amount of prescription painkillers found in his body. The assistant DA suggested Scott was suicidal. Day 2 apparently spent a bunch of time explaining why there will be no video...basically, the machines weren't working, sorry. Then the cop who was closest to Scott testified. In his testimony, he says the gun found by investigators was in its holster, and that he didn't realize the gun was in its holster when he...

An accomplished young man is killed by police outside a Vegas Costco, and bystander accounts starkly contrast with official reports. Erik Scott was a West Point graduate, Army veteran, MBA graduate of Duke University, and a medical sales rep for Boston Scientific. He was gunned down by three Las Vegas police officers after they responded to a 911 call by Costco store employees reporting a man with a gun, possibly on narcotics, behaving erratically. Scott was 38 years old, shopping with his girlfriend for items they needed as they moved in together. Unfortunately, those are the only details of the...

LAS VEGAS -- A recent 8 News NOW-Las Vegas Review-Journal poll suggests the majority of southern Nevadans don't have much faith in the coroner's inquest process. As a result, local leaders are talking reform again. This is not the first time public opinion has prompted reform. In 2006, the controversial shooting death of 17-year-old murder suspect Suave Lopez lead to a formal review of the coroner's inquest process. Recommendations were made, public hearings were held, and changes were implemented. But in the words of one participant, if we're still taking about it the reform fell short. Las Vegas police officers...

We recently saw how the DUmmies were offended by being even briefly EXPOSED to Fox News in public places resulting in their efforts to "Turn Off Fox." Well now they are angry about seeing conservative books prominently displayed at Costco as you can see in this THREAD, "Book selection at Costco: what the heck?" Actually they picked a poor target since Costco is run by a couple of Democrats. However, even they have to bow to public demand which wants CONSERVATIVE books. So let us now watch the DUmmies desiring to burn conservative books in Bolshevik Red while the...

A Devil’s Deal? August 20th, 2010 More than a month after Erik Scott was gunned down in front of the Summerlin Costco, only Las Vegas METRO officers and their allies have seen Costco’s video-surveillance data and heard the contents of a 911 call made by a Costco security employee. That call set off a massive overreaction by METRO officers, and ultimately led to Erik’s death. METRO’s Sheriff, Douglas Gillespie, and his spokesmen have stated, from the first day of this nightmare, that video surveillance data the police department immediately seized has a “glitch,” and might be “unusable.” Those Costco video...

If mine were truly a free country, US police wouldn't wield such immense power or employ such aggressive tactics against their own citizenry – a militarisation of our police forces that started with the war on drugs and intensified after 9/11. Consider: can you invent a realistic scenario wherein you shoot a man dead; justify it with a story witnesses contradict; confiscate any surveillance video; claim a "glitch" makes it impossible to show the video to anyone else – all while enjoying the support of state legal apparatus? Police in Las Vegas did that last month, after they shot Erik...

Erik Scott rarely left home without a gun tucked in his waistband. Concerned about his safety while on call at night to service the pacemakers he sold, Scott decided this year to join more than 34,000 Clark County residents who have obtained concealed weapon permits. “There are a lot of us who are CCW carriers — first and foremost for safety,” Scott’s friend and co-worker Chris Castillo said last week. “He and I used to have long discussions about it. We take calls as pacemaker reps, and we’re out at all times of the night in all areas of Las...

LAS VEGAS -- Family members and friends are planning a vigil to mark the one-month anniversary of the Las Vegas police slaying of a man in front of a membership warehouse store. The 9 p.m. Tuesday event is part of an ongoing family campaign to highlight the July 10 death of 38-year-old Erik Scott by police just outside the Costco store in Summerlin. A local author's son was gunned down by police in Las Vegas on July 10, prompting an outcry from residents and a demand for accountability from his family and friends. West Point graduate Erik Scott, 38, son of Bill Scott, was killed by three cops just outside a Costco store in Las Vegas after a security guard there reported him for carrying a concealed weapon. The weapon was registered, and Erik had the proper permits. Costco doesn't allow weapons in the store, but there's no notice posted, according to Bill Scott. "It's extremely hard to understand," he says in an...

LAS VEGAS--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Goodman Law Group reports that Erik Scott was shot by police outside a busy Summerlin, Nevada Costco store July 10. Many questions surround the shooting of Scott, who was carrying a licensed concealed weapon in a holster when he was surprised by officers as he exited the building with his girlfriend and other customers. Five of the seven shots that felled him were fired into his back. “We know there were four cameras outside of Costco that would've captured the shooting. Las Vegas, NV (KTNV)- There's been a delay in the process to determine exactly what happened in a fatal police shooting in front of the Costco store in Summerlin. That inquest was set for September 3rd, to determine if three officers were justified in the use of deadly force against Erik Scott. Scott was kill by police gunfire on July 10th. A few years ago, when Erik Scott found himself unemployed in the midst of Las Vegas' deepest recession, his father worried about where his son would find work. But Erik just laughed. He never worried. The West Point graduate told his father he would get a haircut, buy a suit and look for a new job. "We always laughed about the Erik Scott luck," his father, Bill Scott, said Thursday. "It just always seemed to go his way until July 10, 2010. It went totally against him." Bill Scott, a former Air Force colonel, and a journalist and author, said...

Let's say you're in a rush after buying a fan at Costco. You look past the line packed with people and carts and spy a lone employee standing by the exit. Do you walk over and show your receipt? What's the worst that could happen? Let's ask Reader Shay. “ On June 23, 2010 at the [redacted] Costco Center at around 11am I made a quick stop in to return a couple items and to pick a fan. Both the returns process and the checkout went wonderfully as usual. It only took me 2 minutes to get in line and...

Despite an economy languishing in high unemployment and low consumer confidence, more American companies are jumping on the bandwagon to provide support for homosexual and transgender employees. More than 300 firms have now received perfect 100 percent scores in this fall's Corporate Equality Index, produced annually by the Human Rights Campaign which ranks businesses on their "treatment" of employees who have chosen homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles. The list, which saw a 20 percent increase this year in the number of perfect scores, includes newcomers such as theater giant AMC Entertainment, Costco, Delta Air Lines, Food Lion and General...

PORTLAND, Ore. - With many families suddenly struggling to feed themselves, the big warehouse clubs known for king-size packages of steak and jumbo boxes of Cheerios are increasingly competing with grocery stores for the 36 million Americans now on food stamps. Costco Wholesale Corp. said Wednesday that it would start accepting food stamps at its warehouse clubs nationwide after testing them at stores in New York. That is a big about-face for a chain that has catered to the bargain-hunting affluent with its gourmet foods, and a reflection of the fact food-stamp use has hit new highs.

BOISE - A local high school math teacher has been arrested for obscene conduct in a public place. Chuck McClure, Boise Police public information officer, says Kyle Dennis, 37, was arrested after multiple instances of "obscene live conduct" that took place at two Boise retail outlets starting in February of this year. According to court documents, Dennis "knowingly engaged in obscene conduct...by manipulating his penis with his hands while walking around a Costco store with an erection." Millions of Americans who shop at Costco receive the retail giant’s monthly magazine The Costco Connection. I have to confess however that my copy of the publication usually never makes it past the garage. Not so the recent August issue, which promotes on the cover a “Back to School” series of essays for parents and children. Since one of the essays promised to take on the issue of bullying, I decided to take a closer look. Bullies seem to be everywhere these days. From the schoolyard to the political arena thugs young and old have been learning that threats and...

This October, when Costco, the big warehouse chain, opens its first Manhattan store, it will occupy a brand new mall along the East River Drive at 116th Street that has been developed with $55 million in tax-free bonds and grants. The company will be eligible for millions of dollars in tax credits for creating new jobs. But there’s one kind of government money Costco won’t take: food stamps. That policy effectively cuts off more than 30,000 of its immediate neighbors in East Harlem, who receive food stamps. Throughout the city, 1.4 million people got them in April, an increase of...

Dear (Right to Work Supporter): This week, the CEOs of Costco, Whole Foods, and Starbucks plan to throw you and their employees "under the bus" to appease Big Labor, offering a so-called "compromise version" of Big Labor's top legislative priority: the "Card Check" Forced Unionism Bill. It's vital you act right now to help fight back against their scheme -- which will leave workers vulnerable to union-boss intimidation and make you pay the price in higher costs. With our economy already blasted with recession and nearly constant political agitation, attempts to "compromise" over forced unionism really could push our economy...

Three major retailers on Saturday laid out broad details of an alternative proposal they hope will fend off a deadlock over a hotly contested bill making it easier for workers to unionize. Starbucks Corp., Whole Foods Market Inc. and Costco Wholesale Corp. are opposed to portions of the labor-friendly Employee Free Choice Act, which would take away the right of employers to demand secret-ballot elections by workers before unions could be formed. Under the legislation, unions could gain representation if a majority of workers sign cards authorizing it. Still, the companies say they recognize that simply opposing the bill might...

Three big retailers are expected to back an alternative proposal next week on a hotly contested bill that would make it easier to unionize workplaces, a move some experts said would bolster the legislation's chance of passage. Costco Wholesale Corp., Starbucks Corp. and Whole Foods Market Inc. are supporting the alternative proposal, according to someone familiar with the effort. Ray Krupin, a management labor lawyer in Washington said the most likely compromise would allow employees to unionize if 70% of them sign union-authorization cards, as opposed to 50% as currently proposed in the Employee Free Choice Act.
