Photos shared on social media show that Bud Light has allegedly received Costco's so-called "star of death"—a small asterisk at the top right-hand corner of items' price tags which the retailer uses to signal a product will no longer be restocked once it is sold out.
Images shared on Twitter showed the price tags for Bud Light beer at different Costco stores, all marked with the "star of death." It's unclear where the stores are located. One of the pictures shows the beer being sold at $14.97 for a 2 x 12 pack, which a Twitter user said was Costco "practically giving away Bud Light."
The photos were shared as the boycott against Bud Light by conservative customers angered by a sponsorship deal with trans activist and influencer Dylan Mulvaney earlier this year continues, with a significant negative impact on the brand.
According to new sales data seen by Newsweek earlier this week, Bud Light has seen a percentage drop in revenue from sales for June, compared with the same time last year.
NielsenIQ sales data, obtained by Newsweek via industry consultancy firm Bump Williams Consulting, showed that over a four-week period ending July 1, Bud Light saw a 28 percent decrease in revenue sales. Bud Light's volume—the number of units of beer sold—was down 31.2 percent compared with the same time last year.
"COSTCO says... STAR OF DEATH for Bud Light * it will not be restocked," tweeted one user sharing a photo of a Costco store whose location was not specified.

Location? Any Costco in a conservative state.
That puts me under some time pressure. I want to work up some Americana shadow boxes containing a crumpled can of Bud Light with a bullet hole through it. I guess I’d better get moving and not take availability for granted.
Don’t know but there are twitter images on the link
You always can order a case from Garth Brooks’ Gaybar.
I believe in Costco’s eyes it’s not a liberal or a conservative thing. It’s a bulk sales thing. Basically, they want to stock only the items they can sell plenty of because their profit margin per item is low. And they see Bud Light as something that’ll use up too much shelf space and stock room space while it sells slowly, while Costco’s business plan depends on volume sales to stay profitable.
Because the photo shows 805 beer prominently displayed, my guess is that the Costco in question is in California or maybe Arizona. 805 has been my go to beer since moving out from Georgia to AZ.
LOL, “The Star of Death”!!!!
I know right! It would seem this “Death Star” is well known among Costco shoppers. They spotted it on Bud Light’s tag and made it go viral.
Bud is taking valuable shelf space. They likely want the space for Modelo, Dos Equis and Tecate. Mexican beers for all of our new friends!
I’ve been to several stores and I have noticed Butt Iite and regular Bud aren’t moving.

Once pervert lite goes down m0pove to other AB brands.
When one wants to dance, one has to pay the band
Shelf space and positioning is very important. If you have a product that is not selling, replace it with something that does. Number of turns matter. Bud inc. put themselves in this position and retailers have to adapt.
I would hate to be a Bud salesman now.
I watch for the death star to get great deals...especially in the refrigerator section.
On a side note, I ate their hot dog for the first time. There must be some shoppers trick on how to deal with it because it was a disaster for me. I needed a plate. Trying to get it to a table after you put mustard and relish on it while wrangling my soda is an art form I didn’t understand.
Shelf space sure is a premium at Costco. I often find an item that I have to think about but when it is sold out they don’t bring it back. Such as the gizmo to cut tree limbs or the dog cooling tent. I don’t know how far in advance they put the death star on those items but I missed out and never saw the star.
“...Such as the gizmo to cut tree limbs...”
I live in Montana so an item like the 17’ tree lopper is seasonal...a pallet of them arrive and when they sell out you have to wait until next year.
The ‘Death Star’ is new to me though I have been aware of the $XX.97 close out pricing...
I do the hot dog, soda, and $9.95 large pepperoni pizza to take home for later about once a month at Costco. I just push the hot dog back into its bag after putting on the mustard and relish. Whatever’s going to fall off in transit (to the car or a table) does so in the bag.
Didn’t know about the asterisk and I’ve been a member since it was Price Club...will have to keep an eye out now.
