UK population must fall to 30m, says Porritt Jonathan Leake and Brendan Montague
JONATHON PORRITT, one of Gordon Brown’s leading green advisers, is to warn that Britain must drastically reduce its population if it is to build a sustainable society.
Porritt’s call will come at this week’s annual conference of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT), of which he is patron.
The trust will release research suggesting UK population must be cut to 30m if the country wants to feed itself sustainably.
Porritt said: “Population growth, plus economic growth, is putting the world under terrible pressure.
“Each person in Britain has far more impact on the environment than those in developing countries so cutting our population is one way to reduce that impact.”
Population growth is one of the most politically sensitive environmental problems. The issues it raises, including religion, culture and immigration policy, have proved too toxic for most green groups.
However, Porritt is winning scientific backing. Professor Chris Rapley, director of the Science Museum, will use the OPT conference, to be held at the Royal Statistical Society, to warn that population growth could help derail attempts to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Rapley, who formerly ran the British Antarctic Survey, said humanity was emitting the equivalent of 50 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
“We have to cut this by 80%, and population growth is going to make that much harder,” he said.

Sooner or later, liberalism always comes around to the wholesale destruction of human life.
That’s a touchy subject because the UK will probably come close to some sort of conflict as the militant Muslims meet the Nanny State’s Sexual Orientation Regulations.
The Christians are polite and civil when they get harrassed by the police “hate crimes” squad.
But the Muslims can’t be exempted from the regs and I understand right now some in the London area face prosecution for keeping their kids home from school.
The Muslim parents didn’t want their kids in school for a “gay pride” day.
This green population control freak makes my blood boil.

He wants British society to limit their reproduction... but it’s just the opposite for their muslim population where the sky’s the limit. Good luck buddy because that 30 M will be 100 M the next generation and you will all be wearing burkas and Arafat headgear.

They are pretty much past suicide. They killed the Uk but we saw a glimmer recently. Muslims came out to denounce British troops returning home from Iraq or Afghan to H. Central England. I forget the town but N England has lots of muzzies.
Anyway a crowd of English people had enough and started moving towards the Muslims. English cops separated them but the locals had enough. Even old grannies and older men gave chase. It is the GD newspaper and TV media who are destroying the UK and USA with the leftists.

The Chinese solution has only slowed the rate of population growth at great human cost. No society has ever lost half its current population without pandemic, famine, war or genocide.
Those populations that have been exterminated were always minorities who were targeted by a stronger foe. It has always been bloody and violent.
A call for a 50% reduction in the current population is a call for violence.
That’s what I was thinking. Who is he going to kill to make the society “sustainable”? Hint—it won’t be Muslims or other PC-protected groups.
We need to encourage the greens to sacrifice themselves for hte cause, to set an example.
We just won’t follow that example ourselves, as they have done in the past, ie, telling people to sacrifice themselves and their things but not doing it themselves.
Current population 61million. Need to kill 31 million and everything will be ok. If we start with those receiving retirement pensions, the defecit will turn into a surplus and their debt problems will disappear. Pure genius.
