Help me out here folks Could he really be this stupid????
Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy!
Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.
Here is a translation of the letter in Le Figaro:
Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !
Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.
Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.
Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :
Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.
This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.
Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !
So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.
I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !
In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him ! http://europumas.over-blog.com/article-29271371.html edited to add the original french article: http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualites/20...es-chirac-.php
Insulting the French is actually the only thing he has done that I agree with.
You are basing this on a blog post... please give us a more reputable source...
I’m not too sure I’m going to bite on this one.
I don’t think even 0bami is that lame...
what a malaise!
He TRULY is an imbecile, I'll bet he wears a safety helmet when aunt esther takes him to the lanes.
“Yes, I considered that but still think in so doing he dissed Sarkozy. Itd be kinda like Sarkozy writing to Bush.”
Except that Sarkozy has been president for almost two years, not two months!
This is a hoax.
“Insulting the French is actually the only thing he has done that I agree with.”
- Seriously speaking, what is your idea of how Europe and America together could defeat Islamofascism?
My suggestion to all true Americans:
Let’s forget about Chirac like most of the French and everyone else over here have and stand up for freedom like true Westerners!
Best of regards from a continent that refuses to be lead by the likes of Chirac!
“Sacre Bleu! Of course you know zat zis means war!”
Have the French surrendered yet?
“Monsieur le president, I fart in your general direction! And besides, my wife is hotter than yours!”
“The problem with liberals is not that they don’t know enough, but that they know so much that isn’t true.”
The sad thing is, even satire reads true these days.
Dam those fox paws......
The American president has just sent a "very friendly" letter to Jacques Chirac, according to the latter. "I am sure that over these four years, we can work together in a spirit of peace and friendship to create a safer world," wrote the successor of George Bush to the predecessor of Nicholas Sarkozy. By using the word "peace," Obama implicitly pays tribute to the activity of the former French president, who was opposed to the Iraq war. In a vote in Congress when he was a senator, the future US president opposed American intervention.
Any implication this is the true face of the current President is purely intentional.
I thought it was a hoax, but having seen the brief text, I now believe that Bambi did send it to Chirac, although not because he thought Chirac was still president. He’s just saying he wants to work with Chirac in the cause of peace, yadda, yadda, and completely ignore the current president. Obama did this to insult Sarkozy, who is (by French standards) a conservative.
This is Madame Sarkozy.
Here's a bad Babelfish translation - not as good as the one you have provided, but good enough to get the meaning:
Barack Obama wrote in Jacques Chirac The US president comes d' to very address a letter "sympathetic nerve" to Jacques Chirac, according to l' expression of this last. "I am certain that we will be able during the four years to come to collaborate together in a spirit of peace and d' friendship in order to build a surer world", writes the successor of George W. Bush to the predecessor of Nicolas Sarkozy. While evoking the word of "peace", Obama pays a homage implicit to l' action of l' former French president who s' was opposed to the war in Iraq. An American intervention against which the future US president s' was opposed as senator, at the time of the vote to the Congress.
Now if we can just keep this in French and out of the sight of the American public...
That's a lie;
the clip you linked to is about Zero's "special Olympics" comment on Leno.
“Well at least he didn’t puke on anyone” (likely DU response)
“Too late. France can literally go to hell.”
- As a European, I can understand your bitterness.
But why all of this whining?
Get back in business again and give cross-atlantic cooperation another chance. It’s never to late to defend the very values that our civilization is founded upon.
We Europeans let you down in the aftermath of 9/11, yes, but remember many Europeans think so too.
Also please remember we contribute to the WOT too, even if we Europeans, admittedly, still aren’t doing our fair share of the job.
Changes will come.
Europe won’t let America down forever.
You might want to see post 100. If you don’t read French, you can translate it in Babelfish.
Did you go back and read the post to which I was responding?
I posted a translation at post 116. I don’t think Bambi believes that Chirac is still president; I think he is purposely ignoring Sarkozy, who is conservative by French standards, and addressing Chirac because he and Bambi shared the same opinions on Iraq.
Seriously speaking, you're not suggesting that the French have in any way stood up to muslim fanaticism???
Any way at all???
Dang....Now that is funny!
Obama chooses to work with Chirac.
I mean whats so confusing about that?
Obama will only work with leftists.
Now what has Barry done...can’t a girl watch her Hallmark movie in peace!
Here’s an English version on another site. Note that it doesn’t say 0bie wrote the letter TO Chirac, just refers to Chirac’s comments about a letter 0bie wrote.
Not bad for a fish :+]
livius is right. It makes perfect sense. Think about it

Many European governments let us down.
Many European people did not.
Thank you for your support. We need all we can get!
Bonjour Western Culture.... LTNS
This letter is the real deal, I have posred the Figaro articlem, and the translation.
The idiot “speaks” french http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdKQqhVbqbA
Thanks, Livius, for the excellent translation.
FYI, the French have 3,000 or more troops in Afghanistan, and are sending more. Earlier this year, 12 French soldiers were killed by the terrorists, and many were wounded.
Sarko is one of the few European leaders to even acknowledge there is a GWOT. With Tony Blair gone, and the TOTUS in charge, Sarko will be, with Bibi Netanyahu, the leader of the Free World.
Very nicely put!
No, I don’t think they’ve made the mistake of confusing the 0bama administration for the dritte Reich.
So, I’ve SEEN the text of the letter now... And I STILL can’t believe it! They HAVE to be trying to insult other nations — PLEASE tell me they are not THIS incompetent!
(Yes, I KNOW they are — I just WISH they were not — we’re doomed).
