House Passes Mandatory National Service Bill The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” intensify.

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.

Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency”.

“The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175,000 “new service opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation,” reports Fox News.

The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act”, which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.

I saw the roll call vote and my Republican Congressman voted for it. Just got off the phone with his office and just sent a scathing e-mail as a follow-up.

Looks like you found the basis for a constitutional challenge!

What Constitution?

The Constitution stands in the way of totalitarianism.

That’s why these fascists have tried to redefine it to be “living”, ie, subject to the whims of black robed oligarchs.

Hell Bill, there are doing so many things that are against the Constitution now. Most of the pepole don’t care as long as thy get their “freebies” such as free health care and free abortions. The courts don’t care. And last but not least, the pepole are all for it as long as it makes thm feel “secure”.

My favorite, and the reason I stopped flying is the airport searches. This is despite what the courts have ruled is un CConstitutional because the Constitution reads that a citizrn is considered innocentof committing a crime until convicted of a crime. But each time you purchase a ticket to fly from from point A to point B, you are considered to be a criminal by the authorties.

Well, my congresscritter (Repub) ducked one this time. I lambasted him twice last week by email for voting for the 95% tax on AIG bonuses. This time he rightly voted NAY. So far, in one week, he’s batting .500.

From what I’ve read, mandatory was taken out and replaced with encouraged.

Not that it makes much difference in thier meaning.

I can’t be hypocritical on this topic. I always believed that all able individuals owed some level of service to the nation, be it military, medical or whatever. But I did not forsee a renewal of the Hitler Youth Corps coming to my town.

This may be the tipping point that finally crashes the Obamoron and his entire administration.

The democrat base will turn on Oboma. They're not interested in working - anywhere, anytime. They like sitting home on welfare and doing nothing. If Oboma tries to force them into doing something, they're going to be pi$$ed! They vote democrat for the free ride. Take that away, and there's no reason to vote at all.
Oboma is targeting their kids, which they just use for more funding anyway, but it's still too close to home for them. If their kids can be forced into government servitude, they know they'll be next.

Maybe, yes, but voluntarily.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

OK, so what if the “hardship exemptions” somehow exempt most of the base that you’re talking about?

Look at the tax and spend targets that have already been established. The tax targets “just happen” to be of a certain demographic, while the recipients “just happen” to be of another certain demographiv.

I agree when it comes to ADULTS. Families who work are already doing their share. Those who live off others could shovel driveways, mow lawns, pick up trash, paint houses, fill the military, etc. to earn their welfare checks. That way, everyone does something to earn their own way.

But leave the kids alone.

Hate to be pedantic, but this mistake is rampant on here. And if it’s going to be a topic of discussion, let’s get it right:

suc·ceed (sk-sd)

2. To accomplish something desired or intended: “Success is counted sweetest/By those who ne’er succeed” Emily Dickinson.
3. Obsolete To devolve upon a person by way of inheritance.
v.tr.

Those who don’t tow the party line will be diagnosed with ADD and sent to special camps to help them with their concentration issues.
