About 60 people marched and rallied in Oakland on Wednesday to condemn the police and honor Lovelle Mixon, who was killed by Oakland police after he fatally shot four officers Saturday.
"OPD you can't hide - we charge you with genocide," chanted the demonstrators as they marched along MacArthur Boulevard, near the intersection with 74th Avenue where Mixon, 26, a fugitive parolee, gunned down two motorcycle officers who had pulled him over in a traffic stop. He killed two more officers who tried to capture him where he was hiding in his sister's apartment nearby.
The protest was organized by the Oakland branch of the Uhuru Movement, whose flyers for the march declared, "Stop Police Terror." Many marchers wore T-shirts featuring Mixon's photo, including a woman identified by march organizers as Mixon's mother. The woman declined to comment and gave her name only as Athena.

I remember it as well, and it’s disgusting, but I don’t see a reasonable connnection or justification, other than the shooters in both cases were scumbags.
I can just imagine their reaction to a bunch of white people having a rally in support of a white guy who gunned down a bunch of black guys.
Springsteen had a point in the Diallo affair. That was the tragic mistake of a largely white squad of officers on the track of a black man who had a completely different face — not just features but shape. It’s well known that persons of a race will do a better job of distinguishing faces of that same race than faces of a different race. The PD should have known that and let blacks be the ones responsible for identifying the intended subject in a tense manhunt.
There would be none, zilch, zero point here.

There is no justification. My point is the over-the-top rhetoric is not entirely reckless hyperbole.
There is no justification for beating someone who causes a fender-bender, but you understand why someone does it.
This is probably one of those stories where “dozens” march and “hundreds” of media marches along, encouraging them.

The minorities in cites are insane. They complain that police crackdowns on crime in their neighborhoods are racist, so the cops ease up on enforcement (another example of evil white men trying to make minorities happy). Then the crime rates go up and the minorities complain that the cops are racist because they dont care about crime in their neighborhoods. Now they are complaining about the death of a multiple cop killer.
Diallo was a tragedy-but one that happened in the blink of an eye. Cops were driving down the street late one night in a neighborhood where a serial rapist was preying. They saw Diallo walking and stopped the car, wanting to question him-they weren’t close enough to, especially at night, on a poorly-lit street, distinguish the details of his facial features. He, in fact, turned partially away from them, as he reached in his pocket.He did not halt (supposedly they said “Freeze!”-Diallo, an immigrant, probably didn’t know what they meant). When he reached in his pocket, a cop said “Gun!” and they fired.
It’s a chicken or egg argument-”cops are too quick to shoot” but hasn’t that maybe come about because criminals , since the 60s—especially in the ‘hood, are FAR more likely to shoot cops-to start shooting at a routine traffic stop, even.
Also, if the armed serial rapist had not been plying his trade, the cops (from a special street crimes unit)would not have been patrolling and on edge.
At what point does the “community” own up to it’s own actions as a cause?
There was an intense manhunt going on, this was no casual driving by.
It’s dark, so what are spotlights for anyhow?
Police departments have been judicially rebuked in the past for their mishandling of the deaf.
The OPD needs to do a 90 day work stoppage. Let the demonstrators "Protect and Serve."
Besides, that would make the gun control supporters happy, since it would get a tremendous number of guns "off the street."

ALL Oakland officers should immediately seek employment elsewhere, and quit. Leave Oakland without police protection. Let the silent ones who stand by deal with the problems themselves. Ingrateful a-holes.
