You made a good point. I agreed with you completely before Bush was elected President. I tried to warn people. But then I gave Bush the benefit of the doubt. Now it turns out that all Bush did was run a war, he forgot that he had a country to run and to not allow it to be run into the ground financially. Bush highlighted the fact that we shouldn’t be making excuses for our political leaders. No one owes anyone and it is up to those would be leaders to prove themselves worthy.

Doubtful that it was an epiphany. When McCain & Sarah Palin came to speak in Colorado Springs, my understanding is that her speech was SRO, but that people started leaving after she left the stage (but before he took the stage).
There were pictures around the time of their visit that seemed to back this up. Additionally, there were so many reports during the campaign of in-fighting between the McCain & Palin camps that seemed to flow from his side being angry that he was being eclipsed.
A war hero you were long ago. A mediocre politician you are today.
I supported and would have voted for him in 2000. But by this last election, things had changed. McCain never seemed to want to fight for anything, but seemed to think that he deserved it anyway. He was disengaged, nonchalant. The sense I got was that McCain thought it was finally his turn, and that it really didn't matter what he did or said, the presidency was going to be his.
McCain was wrong, but he's much too insulated from the lives of average Americans to know or care about is actions affect the rest of us.
After October's financial shocks no Republican could have won.
Obama could have lost the election on his own, but the media wouldn't allow that either.

Most freepers are more informed on the issues than Gov Palin. She reminded me of a female version of Bush: another candidate who was great with the folks, great conservative instincts but didn’t really think about what was going on with the world. She was really banking on McCain’s vast wealth of experience just as Bush depended on Cheney.
The ‘deal’ was for McCain to win and she would pick it up as his VP and then maybe she would have what it takes to be president 4 years from now.

Without Palin I was not going to vote for McCain. Then the way he muffled her was a crime.

His immigration bill proposed the elimination of the US as we know it...by promoting the North American Union...and was also involved in doing away with the US currency...replacing it with the “Amero” (It was all in the McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Bill)
I have problems with someone who, after spending years in a communist prison camp....supported by the Communist Chinese (who were active in North Vietnam during the Vietnam War)...would be so active to promote and support wealth-redistributing trade deals with the same Communist Chinese who held him captive for so long

you can’t really compare the Lincoln-Douglas debates to the Palin-Biden debate.
Biden had such a long record on being WRONG on every single foreign policy issue and she didn’t even touch him. Iran...there is a reason why Biden is known as Tehran’s favorite senator.
I hate to say this way, but think about it.
How does a POW survive? By playing the game. By making himself useful to his captors. By being, doing & saying whatever he has to stay alive. Ethics and ideals have nothing to do with it.
How does a politician "survive"? By playing the game. By making himself useful to his paymasters. By being, doing, and saying whatever he has to "stay alive" with the people who stuff his campaign war chest & with the voters. Ethics and ideals have nothing to do with it.
Many men gave their lives for this country and they are real heroes even when if we don't know their names. But whatever "heroism" John McCain may once have been capable of, simply by surviving when so many didn't, he cashed in on long ago to create a political career for himself.

None of them could have gotten past the open primaries. Remember, neither Obama nor Hillary campaigned in Florida because they were supposed to not be seated, remember. That left all the dems free to vote in OUR primary and vote they did.
