Palin's prayer remark angers former staffers (McCain staffers after her yet again)

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Some of Sarah Palin's former campaign aides are frustrated with the Alaska governor for remarking in a lengthy, freewheeling speech that she had refused to pray with them before last October's vice presidential debate.

Palin told the story in a speech to a GOP dinner in Alaska last Friday.

"So I'm looking around for somebody to pray with, I just need maybe a little help, maybe a little extra," she said of the moments before the debate. "And the McCain campaign, love 'em, you know, they're a lot of people around me, but nobody I could find that I wanted to hold hands with and pray."

As the audience laughed, Palin noted that she meant no disrespect to the McCain campaign and that ended up saying a prayer with her daughter Piper.

A handful of the McCain campaign staffers who traveled with Palin nearly every day for two months caught wind of Palin's remarks on Thursday morning — and they aren't thrilled with her quip.

"We all talked this A.M.," said one former Palin aide in an e-mail. "This set off a nerve for sure with a lot of people."

"It's yet another example of the few staff still loyal to Palin questioning their loyalty and ardent defense of her over the several months since the campaign," said the aide, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly about campaign colleagues.

Seemed like a harmless, light hearted, campaign anecdote to me.

We should also pray for our President Obama. The Bible says that we should pray for our leaders and Obama is our leader.

Nothing but more CNN bulls—t.

Even it it was true... what kind of moron would give a hoot.

Get this through your thick skulls you traitors, if we ever again have a REAL President, it’s going to be Sarah Palin. Your Black thing didn’t work out, deal with it.

These are undoubtedly the same disloyal McCain staffers who were stabbing her in the back after the election and trying to hang her out to dry.

SCREW THEM!

Maybe she meant it that way - but we pray for thieves and murderers and in the churches I grew up in, anybody who would come to the front and accept Christ - it quite a statement to say everybody who worked with McCain is below that.

This is yet another DBM story containing only anonymous “sources”.

This is more Emanuel/Soros divide & conquer subterfuge.

They'll keep putting-out this baloney ‘til people stop falling for it.

Several have reached out individually to offer advice or assistance to the governor, but "have gotten only pleasantries in response," said one aide.

Here's the REAL reason they're pissed at her.

Huh?

The way I read it, the McCain people didn’t want to pray with HER.

This idea of holding hands while praying is foreign to a traditional Catholic like myself; but I would be happy to adopt this vernacular habit for Governor Palin.

You’re right.

But the syntax is so tortured I wonder if the quote is botched. I can’t see her saying that (as it’s printed).

Indeed. My parish adopted the ‘hold hands during the Lord’s prayer’ some years back. I don’t do it.

Exactly and the third party loons jump on it like white on rice. Too bad they don’t spend time bashing the real problem, Obama

Too bad they don’t spend time bashing the real problem, Obama.

Amen.

They consider themselves conservative purists, but they don't realize that the trait you cited is really a liberal one.

Flowing from a feeling of impotence and fear, they attack a weak, irrelevant target rather than fight the real threat.

I took it as implying there weren’t Christians among those staffers. Not a reach to believe that. It’s info for Christians.

Agreed, but I’m still thinking that is not what she meant to say.

This is a story from CNN. Why is everyone presuming that the quote is accurate? Do you people believe CNN would never twist or misstate a quote from a political figure they openly despise?

Unless you can produce video of her actually saying this, and in the tacky tone and context which the article implies, we have no reliable way of evaluating this.

For myself, absent conclusive evidence, my benefit of the doubt goes to Palin (or pretty much anyone else) over CNN. They are proven liars, with a long track record...

Of course. I believe I covered that under "They are proven liars, with a long track record..."
