Winston Churchill had whisky and a cigar with breakfast

While on the BOAC flight in June 1954 the plane's menu was not good enough for the Prime Minister so he wrote one out himself.

He requested his meal be brought on two trays.

He lists in his own hand: "1st Tray. Poached egg, Toast, Jam, Butter, Coffee and milk, Jug of cold milk, Cold Chicken or Meat.

"2nd Tray. Grapefruit, Sugar Bowl, Glass orange squash (ice), Whisky soda." He then adds: "Wash hands, cigar."

At first he had tried to amend the printed menu, but in the end wrote out his own on the other side.

With his Foreign Secretary Sir Anthony Eden at his side, the visit to the US was made at the height of the Cold War and his last to the US as Prime Minister.

The menu was kept by the air steward and the item is being sold along with press cuttings from the trip.

Richard Westwood-Brookes, who is selling it, said: "This is one of the most remarkable pieces of Churchill memorabilia we have seen.

"It shows what a hearty breakfast he ate and it was all washed down with a whisky, after which he smoked a cigar.

"It is the type of indulgence we've come to associate with Churchill and it reassuring to know he ate so well in his 80th year."

He added: "There are some smudges and ink stains but it is a wonderful piece of history."

The menu is expected to fetch up to 1,500 pounds when it is sold at Mullock's auctioneers in Ludlow Shropshire on St George's Day.

That was a man who knew what he wanted, and he got what he wanted.

Don't tell the anti-smoking, anti-drinking, anti-meat-eating Nazis that it's entirely possible to do all three and live to a ripe old age. It'll freak 'em out.

How funny that the vegetarian, non-boozing, non-smoking Fuehrer was pwned by three meat-eating, cigar/cigarette/pipe smokers.

I saw a survey where a significant minority of British citizens who believed Churchill was a mythical figure. The world sure has devolved due to liberalism.

Would it be fair to say Churchill could claim his longevity was attributable to smoking, drinking and stress?

To think that a state-owned aircraft would have such a well-stocked kitchen!

Unfortunately there seems to be an enormous education gap in the UK, and it seems to be growing.

“Just gimme some waffles with grits.”

Heck, welfare bunnies like Obama don’t rise
before noon. That pic was probably the first
breakfast that he’d had in his life.

But you have to admit, the pwning came at a terrible cost to all parties involved.

If he had not indulged in war, not given in to his belligerance, waited to get the missiles perfected, and then gotten The Bomb, the world would have been a very, very different hell by now.

If he had ... waited to get the missiles perfected, and then gotten The Bomb

The Nazis had a major structural impediment to "getting The Bomb."

It is based on Jewish Science, you know. A significant majority of top physicists had fled Germany because they were Jewish or leftist (true, unfortunately.) A counter-productive policy for the Nazis if there ever was one.

It was not as if Jews everywhere were coming up with revolutionary scientific breakthroughs- it could be specifically narrowed down to German Jews who had been educated under the German system, Jewish or not; who became the scientific revolutionaries of the period. You could stretch that to include the German-centric cultures of Switzerland, Austria, etc.

Hitler committed a blunder by turning his madness onto the Jews; but even without them, had Germany not gotten into war, the Bomb would have come into their possession- it was just a matter of time. Others would not have progressed as far as they did, had the German scientists not been forced to emigrate.

Besides that, the pressure of war accelerated developments outside Germany. Without that pressure, and assuming peace to have prevailed in Germany, they most likely would have gotten the Bomb first, and with it, probably the only country with a capable missile system to deliver it reliably.

The war was a boon to the rest of the world, in a sadistic way.
