US tells ships to clean up fumes or stay away

Clean up your fumes or stay away. That's the message US officials are sending to all vessels approaching US coasts. On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced its intention to designate the US coastal region an "emission control area" within four years.

Ships entering US coastal waters, which typically extend 370 kilometres from the coast, will need to meet the highest clean air standards under international law. To approach the US, international vessels will have to cut sulphur emissions by 98 per cent on average by either burning cleaner fuel or chemically "scrubbing" their exhaust. Annual shipping emissions are thought to contribute to 60,000 deaths worldwide, via illnesses such as respiratory disease.

I have good idea. Make cleaner air and more carbon tax. Do wonders for world trade. I real smart, No?

Yes, of course.

Let’s forbid the oil and LPG tankers from docking.

Brilliant.

New carbon-free ship design by Borat leading way for U.S.Navy. Beautiful picture below.
Photobucket

Armed with a single MA-2 .50 caliber Browning, this much feared naval vessel carries up to 30 rounds of armor piercing ammunition. It is the first in an entirely new naval architecture being pushed on the Pentagon by the defense minded Obama Administration as a cost-saving measure. If you look closely, you can see the heavy-duty seat restraint which prevents the pilot/gunner – Kamakazi Kowalski – from leaping from the vessel prior to engaging the enemy. The 12 V trolling motor – which lacks a reverse function -- propels this sophisticated craft forward at a top speed of 4 knots. Reverse travel – at approximately 35 knots -- is achieved by firing the Browning.

I have a better idea. We should require that all ships approaching within four miles of the shore be rigged to appear as giant white swans.

Envirochondriacs invent up to 174,000 meaningless statistics every day.

Who comes up with this BS. Think! There is no way to separate out the pollution from ships from any other pollution so the BS is bogus.

What is the Navy going to do.
Are all our ships compliant?

Lets just cut our throats and get it over with.

How is it that we can tell foreign ships to be clean with 370 kilometers of our shores but we can run nuclear subs to within 12 miles of a foreign shore? Something ain’t adding up?

Tow them in and out for 200 miles? Will drive up costs of course and pass it straight on to the American consumer.

Plug in hybrids is the answer. That, and VERY long extension cords.

Maybe a new transoceanic shipping system entirely, based on an old tried & true inland transport system:

First, get some looooong cables....
