USA Today Publisher Craig Moon To Retire April 17
WSJ ^ | March 31, 2009 | Kathy Shwiff

Craig Moon, president and publisher of USA Today, said he plans to retire April 17 after more than 23 years at Gannett Co. (GCI).

No replacement has been named.

Moon also supervises USA Weekend, the Detroit Media Partnership, Gannett Offset and the Military Times operation.

Gannett owns 85 U.S. newspapers, more than 850 magazines and nondailies, and 23 television stations. USA Today, started in 1982, is the nation's largest circulation daily.

Like other media companies, Gannett has been suffering from sharp drops in advertising and readers moving to the Internet for ads, news and entertainment. At a recent conference with analysts, executives said USA Today will suffer ad revenue declines of 30% to 35% in the first quarter. Among other cost-cutting steps, the company has eliminated jobs, required employees to take unpaid furloughs and slashed its dividend by 90%.

LOL! The WSJ writes this as if it is ‘news.’ Had they been on our Dinosaur Media DeathWatch™ ping list, they would have known this was coming two years ago!

I stopped taking my so called free USA Lies Today during the 1992 election when this bozo refused to investigate the criminal past of the Clintoons.

Thanks for posting this link:

“More than half of USA Today’s circulation is provided to hotel guests, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation. The Gannett paper shows up “free” in front of guest’s rooms. These copies can be booked as paid circulation since technically a guest could can return the paper for a nominal refund (no one ever does).”

USA Lies Today ain’t “Free”. Tell the desk people when you check in a motel/hotel, you don’t want this pos. Also, ask for a reduction in your room rate. Some motels will give up to a $ off for refusing to take this pos posing as a fishwrap.

We always decline the *free* USAToday, then get the 75 cents credit on our hotel bill.

USA Today HAS to be America’s most SHALLOW paper. Close it down - save the trees. Or, maybe they should start a Spanish-language version: USA Jose!
