Gov. Deval Patrick has stashed four staffers in big-bucks jobs at several of the quasi-public agencies he is now vowing to reform - including one post worth a jaw-dropping $190,000 a year, the Herald has learned.
Patrick ordered up a probe of salaries at quasi-public agencies last week as taxpayer outrage peaked over his tapping of Sen. Marian Walsh for a long-vacant $175,000-a-year post with the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority.
But four Patrick administration staffers have landed at quasi-public agencies:
Private sector only, silly boy! :-)
Haven’t listened to Howie Carr in a couple of weeks. Gotta do that today. He must be having a grand time with this.
The government has become little more than a jobs program for bureacrats and politicians. I know a manager in govrenment who constantly struggles to find make-work jobs for her bloated staff.
not to worry the idiots in that state will vote for the Dem , because they have always voted Dem
The amount of times I have heard that when I was up there was amazing
Patrick is the first Democrat governor in 16 years.
To be fair the republicans did a lot of the same things.
The difference now is that Massachusetts is 2 billion in the hole and getting worse. He wants to raise taxes at the same time he is on a hiring spree.
at least TOTUS will raise their taxes (sarc)
In Massachusetts, a Democrat is called a "Republican", and a Communist is called a "Democrat".
We’ve become Zimbabwe.
My town has officially condemned certain articles in the patriot act.
The real reason things seem to be getting worse up here is simply demographics.
Massachusetts has the highest percentage of single females in the country. This is mostly caused by first colleges admitting woman and now the colleges becoming super majority female. These females are mostly from out of state.
Single females outside minorities are one of the largest democratic voting blocks.
If you looked at voting results from past elections based on demographics Massachusetts would have returns similar to Ohio or Pennsylvania if the female population wasn't as heavily weighted.
Once the single woman marry they do change their voting patterns.
Massachusetts will probably be declaring bankruptcy, right around the same time Cali does.
Then Obama will bail our sorry asses out.
Then Deval will accept a position in Obama’s government somewhere, because he’ll have no chance of getting elected here again. But then again, he probably never cared about that in the first place. Together we can.
You know, our founding dads were pretty wise on the subject of limited government; the truths they enumerated are garlic, stake, and silver bullet to that monster known a statism/ socialism.
Howie Carr ping!
good idea...thanks

Tell me about it. I grew up in northern MN. The populace votes DFL hoping for government handouts. The politicians treat them as cheap dumb whores when they notice them at all. They never seem to catch on.
Sorry, I have to call BS, What could Romney veto when he was outnumber 90 to 10?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_Senate
Democrats hold a supermajority in the Senate.
Democratic 35 87.5%
Republican 5 12.5%
40 Total Seats
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_House_of_Representatives
The Democrats hold a supermajority in the House. Only in the Hawaii Senate do Democrats have a larger majority over Republicans
Democratic 141 89.9%
Republican 19 10.1%
Total Seats 160
Before Patrick the Republicans held the seat for sixteen years. No bullshit regardless of the congressional make-up.
It might be hard to fathom but I can remember a time when Massachusetts had two u.s. republican congressmen and a U.S. republican senators. This was 1980 not ancient history.
Times change I guess.
Mitt Romney pledged to increase republican presence in this state and never followed through. He instead spent all of his campaign money on himself. Mitt isn't the worse politician in the world but let's just say I wouldn't charge into battle if he was leading.
for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorship_of_Mitt_Romney
Romney vetoed eight sections of the health care legislation, providing health coverage to senior and disabled legal immigrants not eligible for federal Medicaid.[7][8] However, the state legislature overrode all of the vetoes
Romney also vetoed a retroactive pay raise for unionized employees of state and community colleges.
In 2006, the Massachusetts legislature approved a budget that required spending $450 million from the rainy day fund. Even though the state had collected a record-breaking amount of tax revenue in the fiscal year, the funds were needed to cover the increased spending.[44] Romney vetoed the transfer of funds from the contingency account and used his emergency “9C” cuts to balance the state budget. “One of the primary responsibilities of government is keeping the books balanced,” said Romney “The problem here is not revenues; the problem is overspending. The level of spending which we’re looking at would put us on the same road to financial crisis and ruin that our commonwealth has been down before.”[45]
In July 2006, the legislature passed a bill increasing the minimum wage to $8.00 an hour, and he vetoed it. “I have spent hours reading a wide array of reviews on the minimum wage and its impact on the economy, and there’s no question raising the minimum wage excessively causes a loss of jobs, and the loss of jobs is at the entry level,” said Romney when he vetoed the bill.[109] He proposed an increase to $7.00/hour (which represented a 25 cents an hour increase over the existing rate.) The legislature voted on July 31, 2006 to override his veto (uanimously in the Senate) thus setting the minimum wage at the higher amount
Romney vetoed a bill in 2004 that would have allowed illegal immigrants to obtain in-state tuition rates at state colleges if they graduated from a Massachusetts high school after attending it for at least three years
I hear ya, but unfortunately elections always dont come down to who is the very best person for the job, it is which of these two is going to hurt me less, election was tomm. Obama or Romney you have to go with Romney, thats all I’m saying
