Same here, I withdrew 35k from my bank, no questions, no paperwork but it was probably reported anyway. That was over five years ago.
“The same thing happens if you try to cash a check for 10k or more.”
When my daughter got married last year, there were two ppl who wanted to give her $10,000 as a wedding gift. They both gave her TWO checks of $5,000 each with the second one post dated by 2 months.
hahaha...
This is where we're headed. Fight it!

$4,700?? That IS a bit out of the ordinary. If I were a TSA guy, Id have some questions about it too.
is it really? no one i know uses twenties anymore. 50 is the new 20.
He needs to SUE the living sh** out of the TSA. 1 Million dollars minimum. Then turn it all over to the CFL.
Milk it for 10 times more than what it is worth.
The first time I had my carry on checked was when they had a set up at the gate. The TSA guy asks “May I check your bag.” I said “No.” His face got tight and I saw this was going bad in a hurry. I asked him if I had a choice. He said no, I would be detained. I suggested that he not ask “may I.
You don't have any business moving your eyebrows when someone does something that isn't illegal nor affects you in any way. Well, OK, you can move your eyebrows if you want, but that's it. No talking to him, and no making him miss his flight. If you work for the goobermint, it's none of your beeswax.
BS. Carrying cash should not be against the law, carrying under 10,000 is not a violation of any law. The fact that the WOD has allowed the a**hats of this country to pass laws that make honest citizens criminals such simple acts of carrying cash around with them speaks volumes. When I was a boy, any cops that stopped someone and tried to steal their money would have been in a world of hurt. Confiscation of cash on "suspicion" of it being drug money is nothing more than legalized theft. The reason these confiscation laws were passed had nothing to do with drugs and everything to do with stealing people's property and using the money for the government thief's own gain.
In some jurisdictions they even have a form to sign when they do consent searches so the guy doesn't challenge the search in court.
If they find me with a bunch of cash I would tell them what I was using it for. You have better luck of keeping your money from a seizure happy cop if there is a plausible explanation. Once they get it you are going to spend a bunch of time and money getting back.
“If you work for the goobermint, it’s none of your beeswax.”
No problem there; I don’t disagree. Never condoned the actions taken by the TSA folks in this instance.
Hey Calex, I’m not disagreeing with you or the others here. What I said at the start of all this was that seeing a large amount of cash at an airport might’ve instinctively given pause, NOT supporting the idea of confiscating so much as a nickel, detaining the passenger or anything. Absolutely, any official at any level of government SHOULD be in a world of hurt should they try to confiscate ANYTHING without just cause.
I never said carrying cash should be against the law. Y’all need to stop over-reacting here.
One time I had a large amount (within the "legal" limit, but large) of traveler's cheques. I was stopped twice (once at a "foreign" airport while en route to the U.S. and then again upon entering the U.S.) They asked to see my traveler's cheques.
Question:
It seemed to me more than coincidence that they stopped me only when I was carrying that amount of money. How did they know in that one instance, that I was carrying traveler's cheques? I have never been stopped and questioned like that before or after the incident.
2nd time in a casino, playing quarter video poker, worked my way up about $45. I felt risky on 1 hand so I betted 10 credits ($2.50 whoa boy). Hit the button saved 3 cards, hit the button again, and bells went off. I got a royal flush. I understand how casinos work, so I figured I'm ahead, and cashed out. Attendant came over and cashed me out. They new how much I had played and what I had won. $1196.25. Told me that at $1200 I would have had to pay taxes.
The kicker was, I had just gotten laid off the day before (construction, layoffs are typical), had cashed my check the night before, and had a couple of hundred on me. Went to go for a hike at the state park, and went by the casino. I decided I had $30 to "play" with. Almost tempted me to give up work, and gamble at casinos(for maybe 5 seconds).
That is the reason I stopped flying. From the time you purchase a airline ticket you are considered by the government to be a criminal.
OK< will try again! LOL.
you’d be amazed at the assumptions cops make when they see you have alot of cash. I carry as much as 5 grand with me from time to time. it’s all legitimate business, but they act like i must be swinging drugs or something.
