Gun-Free Zones Are a Magnet for Attacks Like the Tragedy In Binghampton
Fox News ^ | April 3, 2009 | John R. Lott, Jr.

Posted on 04/03/2009 2:57:41 PM PDT by JohnRLott

Time after time multiple victim public shootings occur in gun free zones, public places where citizens are not legally able to carry guns. The horrible attack today in Binghamton, New York is no different. Every multiple victim public shooting that I have studied where more than three people have been killed has taken place where guns are banned.

You would think that it would be an important part of the news stories for a simple reason: Gun-free zones are a magnet for these attacks. Extensive discussions of these attacks can be found here and here. We want to keep people safe, but the problem is that it is the law-abiding good citizens, not the criminals, who obey these laws. We end up disarming the potential victims and not the criminals. Rather than making places safe for victims, we unintentionally make them safe for the criminal.

At some point you would think the media would notice that something is going on here, that these murderers aren’t just picking their targets at random. . . . .

I carry a 10mm delta elite on those "heavy days" and a glock 10mm on the light days (compact). In the trunk, I have a Short Barrel shotgun....

yes nosey ATF agents reading this thread, it's on the registry.

Yep.......I like the plain jane out of the box glock. No NY triggers or aftermarket sights etc ....... may have a 2 shot magazine base pad on all but the 20 / 21 series.......that has always been a bad deal on that series of glocks per my experience !

My Glock 31 is OD frame and black tenifer slide. Zero mods to the firearm.

I just saw the “glock meltdown” yahoo video on another thread. Something like 240 rds thru a full auto with a stock in about a minute. The shooter didn’t even have gloves on. I’ll bet his left thumb and finger were burnt releasing the slide, but it kept running.

That “perfection” slogan has kept glocks frozen in time.

A few mods would make a glock a better gun, such as tactile/visual loaded chamber and cocked indicators.

It’s called an XD.

For an out of the box dehorned durable EDC rig it has a tough finish and IMO the best combat tupperware out there if you read the manual before ya try and make it do what ot was never intended to do ! KISS principal is what Gaston Glock was after and got and I adhere to it as well !

I carried a glock 18 in Desert storm in a E&E shoulder rig with a MP 5 magazine pouch on the off side for the 3 spare 32 round mags and a Ops Inc Can for it.....stoked with 147gr OSM 9mm.

We took em to the range all the time for the year we had em before Aug 2 of 90. I never cooked one like that but they will clear a path .

Much better select fire chauffeur gun that a Beretta 93R IMO. That is a POS for accurate bursts .....

I have heard good things on the XD just have never fired one or got to fingerprint one up at the gun shop .....yet !

If my threat level is high I swap from a Glock empty chamber to a Kydex IWB and chamber full or go back to my tried and true, 1911’s, SIG 220 or 228.

The left is on the left. The right is on the right.

Actually, I have a theory that the poster on the left was done before Chuckie Bloomer was a mugging victim. The one on the right was done afterwards!

“Zero mods to the firearm.
Yep. Hard to improve on perfection.”

That’s best from a liability perspective too. The instructor at a course I took at Frontsight recommended a stock glock (or whatever) for carry for that reason. No race guns.

Ha! At same said Frontsight course we were treated to a full auto G17 (not a G18) modified by lonewolfdist.com. Each student got a 30 round mag. Muzzle climb was atrocious. Every third student or so the instructor dunked the handgun in a bucket of water to cool it :)

Have you seen th enews clip of Biden announcing this “tragedy” to a crowd he was going to give a speech to today...

He sounded so remenisent of President Bush when he announced the 9-11 attacks...

The gasps from the crowd was deafening...

And he did not miss a chance to drop the ever present hint of a need to “end” this violence...

Good call there dipsh!t...You must have ate yer Wheaties or taken some Gincoba to ward off those brainfarts today...

“Never waste a good crisis...” (a tried and true liberal/socialist template)

Has anybody noticed any better availability for large purchases of ammo (mostly military)?
Most everyone was out when I checked a few weeks ago...

“Gun Free Zones” are “gun free” except for when people bring guns there.
