Obama backs Turkey EU accession
Mr Obama said Western nations should engage with the Muslim world US President Barack Obama has arrived in Turkey on a two-day visit, after giving his support to Ankara's efforts to join the European Union.
He said Turkey's accession to the EU would send an important signal to the Muslim world and firmly anchor the country in Europe.
But French President Nicolas Sarkozy said it was up to the EU itself to decide who joined the bloc.
Correspondents say security is extremely tight for Mr Obama's visit. Snipers and riot police have been deployed and military aircraft are patrolling a no-fly zone over Ankara, AP news agency reported.

Turkey is an important US ally by saying that they should be part of the EU he’s playing to their position and helping keep them on our side. Of course he knows full well that France, Germany and an number of other EU countries will never allow Turkey into the EU.
The Turkish economy doesn’t meet the requirements for admission and they already have a problem with Muslim population growth in Europe. If they let Turkey into the EU they lose control of their boarders and workforces. Also Turkey’s boarders are totally porous to Islamic terrorists giving them a superhighway into the heart of the EU.
The libs always tell us to worry about the “ugly American” image abroad.
Obama “apologizes” for the “mistakes” of America.
Then, Obama visits a Muslim country and tells them that those evil Western European countries should let Turkey join their club?
