What I hope, but do not expect, that they do would be to add capacity.

I think you might be right, hopefully they'll add weekend shifts and outsource some of the work to keep up with demand.

Wait, that’s a MAIL ORDER ammo store?

I just never assumed they could do that

Since 1986. From 1968 to 1986, they couldn't. 1986 was the Gun Control Act (thanks LBJ and a 'Rat Congress). 1986 was the Firearms Owners Protection Act, which repealed many of the worst features, but far from all of them, of the '68 gun control act.

Prior to the '68 GCA, you could buy not just ammunition, but guns, anything but full auto, "mail order". That's how Lee Harvey Oswald bought that surplus Italian Iron, with a cheapo scope and mount (Not surplus) that he shot JFK with, via mail order from a company in ... CHICAGO, which had purchased it from a wholesaler in NEW YORK CITY.

You can say that again.

I guess I just really thought you couldn’t send ammo through the mail.

You can't, but FedEx or UPS will deliver it to your door, and you can send the order in through the mail, but the Internet is so much nicer. :)

I’ve bought several firearms this year......... none from a gunshow.

I was actually commenting on the price above the "gun show premium". I did buy a stripped lower at a gun show. That was after going to the favorite local shop, and inquiring on the price and availability of what I wanted. They gun show prices were about the same, maybe a little more, but they actually had the weapons on hand, the shop did not. (In part because they were operating out of a temporary facility, their building having burned to the ground last fall, I happened to come up on it before the fire trucks arrived, and then watched it burn from accross the highway. Even a couple hundred yards away, the ammo cooking off sounded like popcorn being popped. Their new facility is now open, I'll get in there one of these weekends, but not the next one.)

Anyway, the price was still too rich for me, so I bought the lower and ordered a kit to complete it. Saved a few hundred dollars that way...if the kit ever comes, it's been 6 weeks so far, and got exactly the configuration I wanted.

Makarov is 9x18, .380 is 9x17, 9mm parabellum is 9x19 where 17, 18 and 19 equal the case length in mm.

The 9 is deceptive as the Makarov round is bigger in diameter than either of the others.

9x18 blows the doors off .380

I’m FINALLY getting a handgun in the next week or so, only to find out that there’s no 9mm ammo anywhere.

Oh it's out there, all right. Even if you have to go online to get it. And bravo to you for committing to the gun. You're part of the solution!!

AHA! See, I didn’t think about the regulations being different for UPS and Fed Ex.

Thanks!

Ah, you lucky dog. You live in a state where you can do this and end up with a fine weapon. Alas, I am in CA.

gunbroker.....just make sure the cases are boxer primed, most of it is berdan primed and CAN be loaded, but not easily. Fed and winchester produce it, so theirs is probably boxer primed, which is what you want

Move. I moved to Texas (a long time ago) and didn't even consider any jobs on the Left Coast, where there were a lot more at the time, nor on the East coast either for that matter. Wife probably would have left me if I had, especially the East coast, where she had (involuntarily) lived for part of her junior and all of her senior year in high school. She credits that area with throughly messing up her younger siblings, although the youngest didn't turn out too bad, but then again he was only about 13-14 when they moved again to Portland Oregon.

In rather blue Northern Virginia, the only ammunition Walmart actually has is birdshot. .22LR bricks come in from time to time but are generally bought immediately.

The NoVa Walmarts carry other ammo, you just have to catch them right after they've received a shipment. The Fair Lakes Walmart usually has .40 S&W in stock and empty shelves where the .45, 9mm, .38 spl and .357 mag are supposed to live.

I asked about .45 a few weeks ago and the clerk said they had just sold out; someone came in and bought 160 boxes.

Yep. There are a few places where you can't mail or internet order ammo, but it's no problem in most states.

Natchez Shooting Shooting Supplies is one of my favorites. However, because of the shipping charges, it doesn't make sense if you're only buying a couple of boxes.

I would not turn down a Russian PPSh, that's for sure!

That sucker was very effective in WW2 and Korea.

Another fan I see. Very fine knock-off of a PPK apparently. After doing some reading, I discovered the Makarov 9mm is actually a little larger, something on the order of 9.25mm. Curious.

Several weekends ago my daughter brought her brand new itty bitty Ruger LCP 380 up to break it in and get a little practice. I had the honors of being the first to fire it and promptly gouged a couple chunks of skin off the back of my thumb when the bolt slid back. The 380 IS a smaller diameter bullet/case.
