McClatchy Newspapers Puff Piece on New NC Senator Hilariously Demolished by Blogger

What is the result of an incredibly fawning newspaper puff piece about a new senator in which the subject of the story displays her supposed independence from President Barack Obama by voting for every piece of his legislation? An extremely hilarious demolishment of the story by an astute blogger. Such was the case with McClatchy Newspapers reporter Barbara Barrett whose puff piece article about new North Carolina senator, Kay Hagan, was amusingly demolished by blogger Bane Windlow of Carolina Politics Online. To get the full flavor of Windlow's demolishment of Barrett, I will place his comments in [brackets] following Barrett's over the top puffery. You can tell where reporter Barrett is coming from just by reading the first paragraph of her paen to Senator Hagan trying passing itself off as an authentic news story:

The Democrats' newest female star senator, Kay Hagan, surged into office last fall, swinging on the coattails of Barack Obama and his progressive message of change.

A puff piece with sweet maple syrup poured over it. However, it was great to read the hilarious demolishment of this story!

That reporter is a waste of electrons. She should be fired, and in the unlikely event that were to occur, could get a job flacking for this sorry excuse for a senator. What were the voters thinking?

Her whole shtick was that the senator demonstrated “independence” by expressing concern about some of Obama’s progams...and then voting for ALL of them.

What were the voters thinking? Like all democrats, they could get something for nothing.

That's Arlen Specter's explanation for why he isnt a liberal too. He is always concerned, troubled, and worried about the super-liberal legislation he ultimately votes for.

That seems to be Kay Hagen's modus operandi. I was reading an article about Obama's budget a couple of weeks ago. The article quoted Hagen saying that she was "concerned" about the amount of spending.

My immediate thought was, "Yeah, but you'll vote for it regardless."

What were the voters thinking?

For some I know it was absolute anger and disgust with Elizabeth Dole. Perception is that Dole thought she “owned” that seat, so had no need to do much to defend it, and unfortunately she did little to change that perception. I have spoken with county GOP officers who left the Senate vote blank. They were so fed up with Dole that they would not vote for her (they didn’t vote for Hagan). I’m afraid Burr is next, because these same county people are having the same unsatisfactory discussions with Burr’s people they had with Dole’s. The State Party hasn’t had their listening ears on for a few years either, I hope and pray for better out of the State Convention in June when they elect the new State Chairman.

Doles’ death knell was that ad about Kay Hagan’s religion.

Whenever I sent Dole a message expressing my opinion, her reply, more often than not, showed me that she isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. She has absolutely NO understanding of the Fair Tax bill, and she would have supported Cap & Trade. She was mostly RINO.

Did you read the various comments about her on the FR North Carolina board? Brutal!

I think Hagan’s main advantage over Dole was a wave of (alleged) anti-establishment sentiment. The next best thing to throwing a Bush out of office was being able to vote against a Dole.

Disagree on the ‘godless’ ad, but I will concede that it may have been naive to not expect the media to play along with Hagan’s faux outrage over it. However, Dole was behind in the polls well before that IIRC and blew it by having burnt through nearly all of her money early on.
