Cheered wildly by U.S. troops, President Barack Obama flew unannounced into Iraq on Tuesday and promptly declared it was time for Iraqis to "take responsibility for their country" after America's commitment of six years and thousands of lives. "You have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country," the president said as he made a brief inspection of a war he opposed as candidate and now vows to end as commander in chief. "That is an extraordinary achievement."
total of 4,265 U.S. troops have lost their lives in Iraq since March 2003, and Obama said American forces had "performed brilliantly ... under enormous strain."
"It is time for us to transition to the Iraqis," he said as an estimated 600 troops cheered. "They need to take responsibility for their country."
Obama also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who said afterward that he had "assured the president that all the progress that has been made in the security area will continue."
Obama said he had "strongly encouraged" the Iraqi leader to take steps to unite political factions, including integrating Sunnis into the government and security forces.

Look closely at the photograph. Do you see any lean, mean infantry soldiers? No. This puff piece by an appropriately named reporterette doesn't seem to note the absence of any real fighters. Back in the day, these people were called REMFs.
Thank you for explaining what I see as just a demographic issue (women, blacks, Hispanics over-represented in Obama photos)- funny how he seems to only show up with certain hand-picked groups of military. There was a study done fairly recently which disagreed with Rangel’s assertions that people of color are dying disproportionately there. NOT true in the all volunteer military, from what I can tell.
I see one guy in the picture with a combat scroll from Ranger Regiment or one of the battalions...can’t see which one...but he could’ve been a support guy in the Regiment. The infantry types are out in the thick of things. Not hanging out at the palace.
The photos on the link below look to be taken of the warriors missing in the photo above.

Recently enlisted minorities and femmes? If not, please spill!
Well, the way these things usually go an email is blasted out to the distro list for the base saying something to the effect “Anyone who wants to see the president please come to the palace rotunda in the next 15 mins.”. It’s voluntary and yes, they would be REMFs.
Top is in the back making sure everyone has their little camera out.

REMF is after my day.
Rather than assuming, can we have someone actually on site to give us a report on the visit from the messiah
And they dont look happy.
Now those are real “men”. Smart, skeptical and not given to mindless Idol worship.

As someone noted up thread, they appear to have a healthy dose of skepticism.
I see soldiers in the presence of the President, nothing more, nothing less. What am I looking for?
