Ignore it. It’s fiction. A novel.

Except for the fact that the snakeoil salesman “author” claims that the garbage he produces is all true.

Exactly. I don’t believe in munchkins and the Wicked Witch of the West.

To some extent I agree with you, though I do think the Church needs to rebut some of these charges. The problem that the Church is faced with today is that the majority of the population gets its information from popular culture. We have seen the damage this can cause, when most young people get their news from John Stewart.

The problem with the Dan Brown novels is that they are clever enough that some people assume there must be some truth there. In fact there is none. There is no evidence to substantiate a single thing about Magdalene or book burnings, or Church consiracies. All of it is 100% made up. But some of it does sound plausible. The result is that at least 1/3 of the population thinks that at least some of this is true. This is unacceptable. I wouldn't insist that anyone become a Christian, but at the same time I have a problem with someone believing outright lies. Its no different from believing in a 9/11 conspiracy.

people of faith know it's fiction, while others looking for the first excuse not to believe, the moral relativists, will look for the first excuse not to believe and will be swayed by the book and movie. To this day, I still hear Christians questioning and believing what is in the book and discussing its TRUTHS and the conspiracy.

Nevertheless, why even buy the trash?

True, but it’s presented as based on deep historical research. Most people I meet who have read them, think all the history in them is completely accurate.

To think because this is fiction it should be ignored is naive.

Of course people's views are often formed from fiction, especially the under-educated, of which there are millions. Why do you think the communists tried to infiltrate Hollywood? Because fictional themes change minds.

The number of anti-American movies from Hollywood is in large measure why so many young people voted Democrat. They have lost their respect for American values because popular culture (often based on fictional themes) does not reflect them.

You get more wholesome culture, you get more patriotic, Americans. And religious themes operate the same way.

"Ignore it. It’s fiction. A novel."

Whilst I agree, the point is that this particular truth will elude the 0bama voters. It will be sold as truth by the 0bama ballwashers at CBABMSNBC.
