U.S. to join nuclear talks with Iran

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a major departure from previous policy, the United States will join direct talks between U.N. and European powers and Iran over Tehran's nuclear program, the State Department announced Wednesday.

The Obama administration has asked the European Union's international policy chief, Javier Solana, to invite Iran to new talks with the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany, State Department spokesman Robert Wood said.

Washington, which does not have diplomatic relations with Iran, has stayed out of those talks to date.

"If Iran accepts, we hope this will be an occasion to seriously engage Iran of how to break the logjam of recent years and work in a cooperative manner to resolve the outstanding international concerns about its nuclear program," Wood said.

Iran has so far refused Security Council demands to halt its production of enriched uranium, which it has said will be used to fuel nuclear power plants. The United States has accused Tehran of concealing efforts to develop a nuclear bomb, and the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog agency said it has failed to resolve questions about the aim of Iranian program.

“I don’t hear one peep from Republicans in Congress about how Obama’s actions are underming this Republic.”

They’re too busy doing something. What I don’t know, but they are busy.

I know I’m in the minority here - but I disagreed with President Bush43 on this.

If you have enemies... and you want those enemies to do certain things it makes sense to have blunt direct talks with them. We talked to the Nazis, we talked to the Soviets -we talked during all our early wars.

The fear, and its a legitimate fear, that once we start talking the administration will give a way the farm. The ideal thing would be to have administrations we trust to talk and state our positions with consequences and not have to worry they will give do something stupid like give North Korea more nuclear technology in exchange for putting up cameras.

Good point. You know, I wonder what GWB is thinking about now, sitting home and watching the destruction of the country he worked so hard to preserve. Yeah, we all had our differences with GWB, but I believe he would have stood up to Ahmadinejad and his nuclear policy and saved Israel from destruction.

Your Question: "Do you think a reminder will stop Obama from doing anything that is detrimental to the United States of America?"

Answer: No.

Comment: It is becoming time to bring back the old words such as destiny etc. "The Divine One's" destiny is to inflict the maximum damage on the United States, and to do so in good conscience and holding a firm belief that he is helping.

A Great Historian said circa 1888 " In declining states the leadership intuitively chooses the most harmful course of action..."

Remember "The Divine One" is an actor not a governor. Realizing that he is an actor is a key that will help in understanding the coming bad consequences that will hurt us all.

he is a muslims or he loves muslims over this country

because right now he is every day harping on about how we should be nice to islam, how we are not a christian country.
reducing our military while increasing welfare and handouts, plus putting us in debt

I am sick and tired of this idiot and it has been 3 months

every day we hear about his new plans and they are destroying us and in the meantime the media are not reporting anything or are putting icing on his plan

remember he wanted to talk to moderate Taliban, their response was to call him idiotic and laughed at him

For anyone who thinks he is not making a fool of himself then look at the picture of Obama bowing to the Saudi king, no that is not it , now look at the people standing around like Sarkozy.

they are laughing at the man to his face, for the first time in my life I have n ow witnessed the president of the untied states being laughed at to his face and the media ignore this????????????????????????????????????????

In the true spirit of the Founding Fathers, Barry represents the antithesis of what they believed. He is more than an embarrassment to this country and the office he presently holds. He is an outright disgrace to this Nation and to himself as a human being. I have no respect nor desire to see him in any other light than that of a complete failure and his prompt removal from office a rejoice for all Americans....

Sure you can talk and you must follow with Bold action. Reagan talked to our enemies and acted and was successful. Bush talked to our enemies (Saddam) and was bold in his actions but Obama’s version of talk is to outsource the actions to the UN which has proved time and again to be worthless in forcing countries to abandon their aggressive and terrorizing campaigns against peaceful nations.

Obama talks to Amadmanjihadi like Neville Chamberlain talked to Hitler, will Obama convince his throng of worshippers that he has convinced Iran not to pursue the destruction of Israel and then when Israel is nuked its too late. Just like the culling of 6 million jews was the result of Neville Chamberlains naivete

Obama and many liberals follow a reactive approach instead of a Proactive approach to dealing with the madmen of our time. It always ends the same Millions die to teach the same lessons that should have been learned over and over and over again.

>>> I wonder how many concessions we will make to Tehran

Oh, something profound and wise like: "If you give up your nuclear weapons, we will too." I can see the Leftists (and China) applauding with glee and approval.

How nice it is to see the "make love, not war" hippies back in control of the country. Let me guess: Obama's view of Utopia also includes free housing and health care for all people, too!

Unnngh.. Whomever has a copy of his true birth certificate, will you come forward -- PLEASE?! Our country can't take much more of this buffoonery.

Absolutely disagree with his decision here.

You do not negotiate with a terrorist founded nation who’s sole goal is the destruction of the US.
