SAN JOSEIn yet another sign of his pivoting toward the general election, Senator John McCain said at a roundtable with business leaders here today that comprehensive immigration reform should be a top priority for the next president.
. . . . .
He found a friendly audience, however, here today at a business roundtable held at a Silicon Valley technology firm that included Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, Meg Whitman, the former chief executive officer of eBay who was a leading supporter of Mitt Romneys but has since begun raising money for Mr. McCain, and a host of executives from Silicon Valley firms.
. . . . .
Senator Kennedy and I tried very hard to get immigration reform, a comprehensive plan, through the Congress of the United States, he said. It is a federal responsibility and because of our failure as a federal obligation, were seeing all these various conflicts and problems throughout our nation as different towns, cities, counties, whatever they are, implement different policies and different programs which makes things even worse and even more confusing.
He added: I believe we have to secure our borders, and I think most Americans agree with that, because its a matter of national security. But we must enact comprehensive immigration reform. We must make it a top agenda item if we dont do it before, and we probably wont, a little straight talk, as of January 2009.
. . . . .
Mr. Schwarzenegger, a strong supporter of immigration reform, chimed in, saying the effort could not be accomplished piecemeal and called for lawmakers to summon the courage to go forward.
I think all of us have to keep that pressure on Congress, he said.

Mr. Obama plans to speak publicly about the issue in May, administration officials said, and over the summer he will convene working groups, including lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration groups, to begin discussing possible legislation for as early as this fall.

Arnold/McCain/Meg Whitman ping!
“as different towns, cities, counties, whatever they are, implement different policies and different programs which makes things even worse and even more confusing.
In otherwords, expansion of federal jurisdiction. Can’t let the people(states) govern themselves.
I’m far more interested in Border Security, Sovereignty and deportation of illegal aliens.
I agree that immigration reform should be a top priority, but McCain and I disagree about the reforms. Congress should triple the fines, for employers who hire illegal aliens. This would usually deter employers from hiring illegals. The money that is collected, from the fines, would be used to build a brick wall, along the Mexican border and to hire more ICE agents, so that they can deport more illegals.
Blah, blah, blah....our govt is a complete joke.
No, it’s worse than that. Our government is the Fourth Reich. America is the new home of Nazism.
These scum seem to be working on a timetable for the destruction of our country.
And the Hispanics voted against him?
Yes...and he’s still determined to pass amnesty, nonetheless.
Do you know how many illegal Hispanics it takes to run one of the largest beer distribution operations in the U.S.???
When you figure all the others my buds at the country club require for theirs, hell, we actually need 10 million MORE than we have here now.
If you keep fighting me on this shamnesty thing, I’ll send my valley girl daughter to your house and force you to listen to her inane, imbicilic, uninformed, know-nothing prattle until your ears bleed.
Thank you for your consideration.
John McCain
(And to think I actually voted for this guy. Truth to tell, I was voting for Sarah (the ONLY conservative on the ticket.)
