As the hostage situation with a U.S. vessel and Somali pirates lasted into its second day, the White House said Thursday that President Obama is keeping "apprised" of the situation and continues to be concerned about the safety of the ship's captain and crew.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the president has spoken with the commander of the Fifth Fleet, and the Navy and the FBI are "on the scene" so "the resources of our government are deployed in ensuring the safety and security of the captain and crew."
Gibbs said the interagency group on maritime safety, which includes representatives from the Justice, Commerce, Homeland Security and Energy departments and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is focused on the situation.
"Obviously, [Obama's] main concern is for the safety of the captain and the rest of the crew of the ship," Gibbs said. He added: "At this point, he's staying apprised of the situation."
“Monitoring the situation”, isn’t that sort of the same as voting present?
She must’ve farted...
I bet he is, never know when you will see your long lost relatives on TV.
It's good to know that another extra-constitional organization is "on the job" and working for our national security... (sarcasm)
Yeah, right... but this morning he just wanted to “concentrate on housing” and couldn’t even make a statement of support to the Captain’s FAMILY? The TRUTH is Obama ASSIGNED someone to keep an eye on it and speak FOR him on this, and he probably has no CLUE what is going on... He’s too busy trying to memorize his next press conference answers so he doesn’t look like such a fool, or need to use the dueling teleprompters instead of the “Big Screen” below all the cameras in the back...
Yes, I know this is an awful cynical view, but Obama has earned our cynicism, if not more...
When Bam was first asked about this, he gave it a huge HUM...obviously his teleprompter wasn’t plugged in. What a “Lightweight”. IDIOT.
His teleprompter is keeping an eye on the situation.
He refused to comment earlier today when asked about it at a press conference.
For all his RINOness, are we missing President Bush yet? /rhetorical
Translation: We’re conducting polls now to see how people would react to different possible approaches.
Flagging ships under the US flag is an extremely expensive proposition. The major reason for doing so is that the pause it gives other countries in attacking those vessels.
It’s understood that an attack on a US flag vessel is an unambiguous act of war. It’s why Kuwait reflagged its vessels when Iraq invaded Kuwait.
Now, an attack has occurred, and the best the WH can do is monitor the situation? That’s what flying the US flag at sea buys you nowadays?
Too bad the pirates weren’t Christian. They’d be dead by now.
I think the President’s being tested alright. The muslim world is waiting to see how we responds to an unambiguous act of war - by a more or less stateless entity, but a clear act of war.
If we aren’t going to respond forcefully to this, its open season again. Launch a missile, seize a ship, bomb Denver, but be Muslim doing it, because B. Hussein Obama’s not going to go to war against a Muslim.
Phew! That's a relief!
I was worried they would send a Seal Team.
It’s the fault of the white western man! Tempting the poor Somalian people with all that stuff on those ships.....just cruising by....HANDS OFF THE SOMALIAN PIRATE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!/s
I've got to call bull5hit on you, Bambi ...
Let me help you catch up ... while you've been out to lunch the crew regained control of the ship ... so, they're not in danger any more.
Also, when you were asked about the situation this morning, you had to vote "present" and decline to answer .. most likely because you had no idea what the reporter was talking about.
No. Thanks for that link.. very interesting.
In other words : “Call me if you need me.” LOL!
Ha!
Bump to that!
