Act forces Congress' return to limited government
World Net Daily ^ | April 9, 2009 | Chelsea Schilling

As a reminder of the federal government's limited powers, 20 representatives want to ensure that every single piece of legislation passing through Congress includes a statement citing specific constitutional authority for enacting it.

Sponsored by Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., H.R. 450, or the Enumerated Powers Act, states, "Each Act of Congress shall contain a concise and definite statement of the constitutional authority relied upon for the enactment of each portion of that Act. The failure to comply with this section shall give rise to a point of order in either House of Congress. …"

When he introduced the proposal Jan. 9, Shadegg gave a House floor speech reminding his colleagues of limited authority granted in the 10th Amendment of the United States Constitution.

I’m holding my breath until this one gets passed. I certainly respect the gentleman from AZ for getting it out there. What a difference this would make in our lives.........

It’s a wonderful idea, and it might have had a chance had he introduced it when the Pubbies had the White House and majorities in the house and Senate.

Why did he wait so long?

Might this be just more posturing by those who never had a problem passing law after law and spending their brains out when they were in control?

Just a thought. Better late than never, I guess.

For that reason, Shadegg said he has introduced the Enumerated Powers Act each year that he's been in Congress.

It hasn't passed fifteen times (if he's introduced it each year) and I suspect it'll be at least another year or three before it might.

Anyway, even if the ones proposing this are giving it the old “college-try” I will commend them, but I think we’re past this... Besides, it’ll just give them one more excuse NOT to read the BILLS!!!! “Well, they SAID it was Constitutional!”

While this should have been part of the original Constitution, there is no way shy of gun fire that this passes in the current Congress.

THIS is what I have been looking for! Bombard John Conyers, and Louise Slaughter's phones and demand this bill be brought to the house floor for a vote!

President Reagon required this of his staff for any new regulation. It cut down on a lot of BS.

The legislation has 19 co-sponsors – all Republicans.

I'm sure the prevailing Democrat reaction was to wildly guffaw in the face of these 20 Republicans and mock them as fools.

Or .. how about.....

Any law found to be Unconstitutional, ALL Congressional Delegates, AND President, having voted in the affirmative, are Personally FINANCIALLY LIABLE for all Court costs and legal fees for the individual having brought suit.

Or, instead be STONED or BOTH!!

It may be a start, but it will not get Congress’ attention. Only this will: http://pushbackuntil.com. We need a few hundred thousand - hopefully a million - people in D.C. this fall. Otherwise, we can only watch as Congress drives us deeper towards bankruptcy.

Push Back Until!
