Charles Krauthammer: It's Your Country Too, Mr. President
Washington Post ^

Posted on 04/09/2009 11:26:25 PM PDT by Chet 99

. . .

I'm not against gift-giving in international relations. But it would be nice to see some reciprocity. Obama was in a giving mood throughout Europe. While Gordon Brown was trying to make his American DVDs work and the queen was rocking to her new iPod, the rest of Europe was enjoying a more fulsome Obama gift.

Our president came bearing a basketful of mea culpas. With varying degrees of directness or obliqueness, Obama indicted his own people for arrogance, for dismissiveness and derisiveness, for genocide, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world.

And what did he get for this obsessive denigration of his own country? He wanted more NATO combat troops in Afghanistan to match the surge of 17,000 Americans. He was rudely rebuffed.

He wanted more stimulus spending from Europe. He got nothing.

From Russia, he got no help on Iran. From China, he got the blocking of any action on North Korea.

I was wondering...have we ever done anything good for anyone? Have we ever helped with hurricane or tsunami relief...aids prevention..the overthrough of dictators...rebuilding industry of anyone who was destroyed by war...provided a culture of democracy..provided an example of equality or of a justice based on the rule of law...

I wish we had done at least some of those things.

Oh wait, we gave $50k to the Italians for the earthquake the just had...That Obama, he is one generous guy.

0bama is turning out to be Jimmy Carter’s second term.

People forget (too busy watching Springer), but Peanut Man was wildly popular at home and abroad as well - before winds of fickle public opinion shifted.

It was stupid to try to do serious negotiations on a big splashy trip right out of the gate. Any sensible president would have been busy for months working the back channels first.

[It is passing strange for a world leader to celebrate his own country's decline. A few more such overseas tours, and Obama will have a lot more decline to celebrate.]

Obama was greeted well on his trip because he is a novelty—like P.T. Barnum's famous midget, Tom Thumb, or the Elephant Man.

I believe there were months/years? of intense negotiations between staffers for Reagan and Gorbachev before the two big men had ever met one another. But as you said, “any sensible president”... that’s clearly not who we have here.

For Obama the stage before world leaders is a much different one than one of his campaign rallies where little 20-something females would feint from the mere sight of him.

Has anyone made the connection between feeling ashamed of your country and the psychologial shame someone who was abandonded by his natural father might have? Worth looking at for any Gail Sheehy wannabes out there. He seems a little too comfortable with projecting shame and blame for his country. Looks like the Adult Children of Dysfunctional Parents Syndrome here again. That same scolding and blame game found with that.

And, it’s going to be pretty hard to lean on any of these other countries to relent after Obama pushed them to give a quick answer in the spotlight.

The common people over there may have applauded him like they did on his campaign trip, but they aren’t going to get, say, Austria to take terrorism suspects off his hands.

“And, it’s going to be pretty hard to lean on any of these other countries to relent after Obama pushed them to give a quick answer in the spotlight.”

It is weird how with our mortal enemies, let’s chit chat without any agenda, any conditions, what have you... with our allies, Obama releases his agenda/demands via press releases and demands an immediate response.

“You did the right thing. You know the Japanese attitude at that time, how fanatic they were, they’d die for the Emperor...Every man, woman, and child would have resisted that invasion with sticks and stones if necessary...Can you imagine what a slaughter it would be to invade Japan? It would have been terrible. The Japanese people know more about it than the American public will ever know.”

Yep, he was abandoned by his natural father. And then his stepfather. Then his mother dumped him on his grandparents. And his granddad sloughed him off on a drunken homosexual washed up Marxist poet. There might be a little abandonment issue there.

He would want someone to blame for that, yes? Somewhere to shift the shame. That is how it works when these issues are unresolved.

Some of that came out in his Philadelphia speech when he threw granny under the bus. Now the USA goes under the bus. "Christian nation" goes under the bus. He is carrying out the projection far and wide.

Rev. Wright helped him see that it was America that sent his African daddy away. America, the way it is, ruined his childhood.

Carter was never a cult-like messianic figure. I lived in New York and even Democrats thought he was a bit off out of the gate, but any Democrat seemed preferrable to the demonized Nixon. He made a total hash of the economy and foreign relations. The Iran hostage crisis was the toxic icing on a repulsive cake.

It is not just the duty of a Muslim individual to do jihad, it is the duty of the Muslim head of state. According to sharia books and mainstream Islam, the definition of jihad is “to war against non-Muslims to establish the religion.”

Top Six Reasons HBO is a muslim:

1 - HBO won’t keep a dog even after he promised his kids he would get one

2 - He doesn’t celebrate Christmas

3 - He can’t find a ‘church’ like the one he attended in Chicago - the Rev Wright is an ex-muslim. And since there is no such thing as an ex muslim - the rev Wrights church served the purpose of providing ‘cover’ for ex-muslims needing to look like christians -wink wink, nod nod.

4 - HBO bowed to the Saudi King. And HBO laughed in the face of Gordon Brown and the Queen. Muslims have no respect for the English people and signs of disrespect increased his bona fides with the muslim onwatchers.

5- HBO is happy to stand back and watch servicemen die since that is their function - according to the muslim jihad mentality. And as the jihadist in chief - destruction of our miltary (its dismemberment and demoralization) are the prime directive.

6- The only person that was close to a father figure for HBO was his stepfather Sotoero in Indonesia where HBO attended a Muslim blab school. HBO is still looking for a father figure and bowed to the Arab warloard in hopes of some such recognition.

“Some of that came out in his Philadelphia speech when he threw granny under the bus.”

Ah . . . and then obama compared the Queen of England to his grandmother, except that she lives in a much bigger house (according to Gibbs). He’s got a problem with white people, which is half of his genetic make-up. He must really hate his mother, which he is projecting onto the “white” world.

obama is so not up to the job. He should be seeing a psychiatrist. A good psychiatrist like Charles Krauthammer.

As long as we are surmising here, let me add another one.
Two different posters on FR mentioned that 1)his sister in England asked how we liked having a muslim pres__ent, because everyone there knew he was a muslim. 2)Somebody that deals with African gov. officials and business leaders mentioned that he has been told that everyone in Africia knows that he is muslim. Therefore; I wonder if the big crowds that he draws in Europe are mostly muslims.

With the nomination of Obama, the Dems have snared a new distinction: their last two presidents have come from dysfunctional, broken families. And look where voting for them gets America.

At least Jimmuh came from a more-or-less intact family.

We keep electing these psychological cripples.

Japanese pilot Mitsuo Fuchida (Led the raid on Pearl Harbor) in a conversation with Paul Tibbets.

One of my uncles was in the First Cav in the Pacific part of WWII and was on leave to say goodbye to his parents and sisters (4 and 1 was my mother), when we nuked Japan and the war ended.

He was glad that it was over. However, he said that he and thousands of other soldiers, marines and sailors were disappointed that we only used two bombs.

One time after a few beers, he told his Dad and 4 BIL’s that he wished, “We had used two dozen atomic bombs and then let he and his fellow warriors clean up the trash. Those, who had started the war and killed hundreds of thousands with total brutality.”

Not very PC in today’s world, but an honest reaction from a surviving warrior against the barbarians.

“One year from now....”

I’m always a little chagrined by that qualifier. (I’m assuming there’s nothing special about April 09/10, 2010.) Similar to “give him time to find his feet, he’s brand new in office”. (And I KNOW you are not advocating that, this post is addressed to your choice of phrase, not to you personally)

0bama is 0bama. Period. Once again, dumb, stupid, neanderthal, simplistic, cave-dwelling Conservatives who never had an orignal idea in their lives “get it”. 0bama is 0bama. He indeed is the Marxist/Socialist we saw during the campaign with the curiouser and curiouser mysterious past with the gaping holes. He is the stumbly bumbly speaker remarkable only in the sense that he can slough over his inarticulateness with grandiose meaningless gobbledygook. Protected and glorified by a media machine that would make Herr Goebbels shed tears of joy, he seems immune to any reality-based or thought-based attack. We are left to marvel at Michelle 0bamas’ arms.

Not just all that, but he is a brazen and stunningly consistent liar who’d probably edge out Clinton in a competition, if the lying contest were held fairly. An amusing concept in and of itself with these two. And ultimately he is a Muslim. All this is demonstrated in deeds, not words, while he remonstrates with us that words must mean something, while for him, they do not.

My point being, a year isn’t going to make any difference. At least, not for me, and I daresay not for you. And if it does, it will IMO be because the country has moved closer to 0bamas’ ideals rather 0bama relinquishing his wonderful visions of our utopian hell.
