Yeah, I am in Huntsville. Sirens have been going off for about an hour. There was baseball size hail in this area but I did not catch where it happened. The weather guy had some in his hands. Never seen hail that size. Uh-oh. Really thundering and lightning in my neck of the woods. Headed my way! Bye.

Sorry, you are wrong. Back in 1974, we watched tornadoes being formed in western AL and it came through Huntsville, and up into Zenia, Ohio. If I remember correctly, hundreds of people were killed. Someone found checks from here up in TN. It was after that storm that the tv stations got generators because all of them lost power and we had to rely on radio. Now when a storm is headed our way, they go to full time coverage. Wow, it is really coming down.

AP report says “nine injured” but didn’t say where.

I’m guessing in the Murfreesboro area.

Sorry, you are wrong.

The damage tracks from a tornado might be a mile wide, max. There were about 140 tornados in that outbreak. The vast majority of the region did not suffer catastrophic damage. Compare that to the complete obliteration of a region that would happen if there was another New Madrid-level quake in the Missouri bootheel - you would have major damage in St. Louis, Little Rock and Memphis and many smaller cities. That's a much more difficult recovery scenario.

It is hailing at my house and sounds like gunfire. It is raining so hard I can barely see across the street. We do not need another tornado hitting in this area. Guess I should get off the computer but it is not lightning here. Looks like it may cause trouble where my granddaughter and her family lives.

Hope they are OK. Compton Road is near the areas reported hit. My SIL reported Osborne Lane and it’s about 1/4 mile from Compton.

Channel 5 just showed “Thompson Lane” at Esquire, but they probably were at Compton at Esquire. It’s Thompson lane on the east side of US 231 and Compton on the west. Lots of property damage, but no injuries reported. Local law enforcement are asking people to stay off cell phones because they are having trouble communicating. I suspect cell towers may be down, and I know electricity is out. My brother could not get his cell phone to work to call us.

Are you anywhere near Spring City? My son and about 150 other kids/parents from his high school are on a working mission trip at the Cedine Camp. They are constructing new dormitories for the camp. They are scheduled to head back to IL tonight.

Yeah heard from two of them that were not home (they were at a house near the river on Sulphur Springs Rd. Still no word from my father-in-law - don’t know if he was home or what.

Thanks for that update. They live on Ravenel, which is in that subdivision. From the reports it seems there must have been more than one funnel.

Spring City is getting hit right now. If you go to weather.com and put in my zip code (37737) Spring City is almost straight west of Maryville, right on the front edge of the red part of the storm. (A fairly loose looking part of the system)
