Michelle Obama Gets Her Knees Dirty in the White House Garden (barf alert)

First Lady Michelle Obama, the knees of her cropped black slacks covered in dirt, planted herb seedlings and carrots in her new White House Kitchen Garden Thursday, telling local schoolchildren enlisted to help that fresh veggies are "brain food."

Making the point that homegrown is a cheap way for families to eat healthily, the First Lady asked the kids: "How much do you think it costs to do this garden?"

"Over $100,000," guessed a boy.

Laughing, Mrs. Obama replied, "My husband would go crazy if he thought we were spending that kind of money! ... It's between $100 and $200. So it's not a lot of money. And this garden can not only feed my family, but it's going to feed all the staff at the White House. We're going to serve it at some State Dinners."

Mrs. Obama said the top question she got from world leaders on her recent trip to Europe with the president was about the garden. "From Prince Charles on down, they were excited we were planting this."

As for another pressing question back home – when they'll need to worry about putting chicken wire around the garden to keep out a frolicking First Dog – Mrs. Obama said only, "Soon, soon!"

I would like to know how much planting she did before the cameras got there, and how long she planted after the cameras left.

Is the Dept of Agriculture going to inspect this garden?

Prince Charles is impressed. Perhaps Michelle could ask him over for a day of hoein’ weeding, watering, fertilizing.

I can just imagine his servants working the soil. :)

“Golly, Mr. President. I forgot the vegetables back in Missouri!”

“Don’t worry! We can pick them fresh from our garden!”

Hey, at least it’s not Monica getting her knees dirty in the Oval Office.

If government employees are involved in this charade, he's probably right.

Michelle is going to grow some ‘mints & lettuces’ because she said so!

I believe it is mint & lettuce but since she is ‘first lady’ what do I know?!

Thus proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Europe really is just twiddling its thumbs, waiting to die.

Pigeon toed. Goofy outfit. Surly look on her mug. Looking down her nose at the “peasant”, “low-life” children. Yep! That’s our 1st “lady”!

When all is said and done, what do you bet the garden ends up costing just about as much as the kid said it did!

The White House gardeners will have to hire another person to tend to it. There are herbicides and fertilizer. There is the high cost of watering the garden...Maybe she spent a few hundred dollars for the plants..but, to till the ground and tend the garden by government workers....she just doesn’t understand that this kid has been living in DC for his whole like, and has a much better grip on the reality of living there!

No one would use a little watering can on a garden. You would be there for days to do any good.

I think ‘chelle is reteaching black folks how to be slaves.

She is the new Scarlett O’Hara. ROTFL

Maybe she will take the Oval Office drapes for her next fashion statement.

Barry may say one of these days, “frankly ‘chell, I don’t give a damn”.

You can’t make this BS up, no way, no time.

What’s next, I wonder. Demonstrations on the finer points of chopping cotton? These people are an embarrassment.

These people are, against all odds, making Carter look good by comparison. I remember, not fondly, the bean and weenie roasts on the White House lawn, along with little Amy’s tree house. I absolutely hated living in DC during the Carter occupation.

The part related to Carter I loved best? When Nancy Reagan, shortly after the Inauguration and banishment of Peanut Boy, turned Amy’s bedroom into a walk-in closet.
