Warren waver on Prop 8 stuns leaders Stance about-face at issue

Evangelical leaders say they are bewildered and stunned by the Rev. Rick Warren's apparent turnaround on gay marriage after the famous California pastor said earlier this week that he was not a proponent of California's Proposition 8.
Mr. Warren told CNN's Larry King on Monday that he "never once even gave an endorsement" of the proposition, which said marriage in the state could only involve one man and one woman.
The measure won at the polls last November by a close margin, in effect negating an earlier California Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriages.
Proponents of the proposition had gathered from earlier comments that Mr. Warren stood with them on the issue, and they reacted vigorously to his CNN interview.
"I was extremely troubled by the way he appeared to be so anxious to distance himself from the same-sex issue and to make clear he was not an 'activist' and that he'd only addressed the issue in a very minor way," said the Rev. Al Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said his denial is "absolutely baffling."

I guess we know which church they will be using to get married. For Warren to refuse them would be hypocritical.

Is a lie, the defense of marriage act passed in CA by the same margin as Obama’s electoral victory, nowhere will Obamao’s victory be described as “a close margin”.
Warren is suffering with media disease, let the cameras roll and they lose their character, despite the injunction of “preach the word in season and out of season”.
Why this baffles anyone with an once of discernment is beyond me.
Anybody watching Warren should have seen this a mile off.

This guy panicked, he wanted to lead a feel good movement, he wasn't ready to take a stand on anything evidently, sounds to me as though he is worried about losing market share.
Warren was good at the saddleback forum in 08, it’s a disappointment seeing him fold like this as I felt he was a weak kneed in 08 and he proved me wrong, in 09...he’s weak kneed...sad really.

I agree with this post 100%! He is a media hound and catapulted into prominence with his “debates” with McCain and BHO. This guy deserves a millstone around his neck! I hope and pray he loses all his congregants. After that the Gays will devour him.

Yeah, the sad thing is that there are not a lot of evangelicals on the national stage that actually preach “the word”. Of course, if you drop down to the local level, that’s where you’ll find the folks that are actually willing to lay out the doctrine, and that’s truly where it counts anyway.
If you want to know who does the best job of consistently laying out doctrine from the top, it’s the Pope and his minions. The consistency varies, but there are a number of archbishops and bishops that are doing a great job of laying out their doctrine and actually providing consequences for bad behavior (Obama’s address at Notre
Dame comes to mind). I believe it’s the local bishop that will not be attending the ceremony. Excellent! Here’s an example of a religious leader who is siding with doctrine over popularity.
I just wish the evangelicals had a lot of national preachers willing to do the same thing. Sadly, all too many of them are more interested in increasing their popularity, at the expense of the message. Disheartening, but there’s still the local preachers that do the gruntwork for God. Bless all of ‘em.
This just seems to apply here as it has to so many men in the “ministry”. Its usually a bad sign when they put their name on things.
He wouldn’t be the first one to use God’s Word for personaly benefit and misleading others to the Word.
