(04-11) 07:59 PDT TRACY -- A Sunday school teacher was booked early today on suspicion of murder and kidnapping in the slaying of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, whose body was found in a suitcase in an irrigation pond.
Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Friday after she drove to the Tracy Police Department to be interviewed. She was booked at 3:25 a.m. today at San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp, where she is being held without bail.
"She revealed enough information that we had probable cause to arrest her for both kidnapping and murder," Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman told reporters. During her interview, "she was very relaxed for a bit, then she became very emotional, and then she became relaxed again, and then became resigned to what was happening," Sheneman said.
No motive was disclosed in the slaying, and authorities have not said how Sandra was killed pending the results of an autopsy. Huckaby is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Great! Another black-eye given to church going folks and the Savior by the DBM, and so appropriate the day before we celebrate His resurrection!
May Jesus hold little Sandra safe in His loving arms, and may the perp of this crime have to answer for it!
Is this an actual statute or is it sloppy reporting? Last I knew, there had to be some kind of evidence, not just 'suspicion'.
What was so important about the following that it had to be included in this article?
Connie Lawless was elected to San Joaquin Valley’s Republican Central Committee in 2006 and lost a re-election bid two years later, according to the county registrar of voters.
I’ve seen that term often enough in reporting.
The one that drive me nuts is refering to convicted felons as “alleged”.
Depending on how the facts play out I would rather be of the opine that a wolf in sheeps clothing was mixing among the herd of Gods Church.
A Few things that are head scratchers at this point with no facts available to the public.
1. It is a young woman that was arrested for the murder.
2. What the heck was the suspects suit case doing sitting in the drive way (kinda of an odd place to leave a suit case IMO)
3. The suspect had internal bleeding and was in ICU (what the heck was that all about, a young woman with internal bleeding, possible abortion?)
3. If the suspect is found guilty what in the world could an 8 yr old child do to cause a non relative 28 yr old woman do to spark a motive for murder?
“Great! Another black-eye given to church going folks and the Savior by the DBM, and so appropriate the day before we celebrate His resurrection!”
Not necessarily true. Even church going folks can be derranged. Prayers for that innocent little girl.
Huckaby is a neighbor of the Cantu family and taught Sunday school at the church. She has a young daughter who frequently played with Sandra and told police that Sandra had stopped by on the day she disappeared.
According to a report in the San Joaquin Herald, Huckabee pleaded no contest earlier this year to one count of theft with a prior conviction. She was expected to be sentenced on those charges this week.
Huckaby made news on Friday when she told a reporter at the Tracy Press newspaper that her black suitcase had been stolen the day Sandra disappeared. Monday, Sandra’s body was found in a black Eddie Bauer suitcase in an irrigation pond close to the mobile home park where she lived. Police have confirmed that the suitcase belonged to Huckaby.
